i know it might sound a bit of a stupid question but do draggin jeans make jackets or is there another company that do the equiverlent jacket. textile/denim with a jevlar lining or soft CE approved armour??

also are hood jeans better than draggin?

opinion is divided on hood vs draggin. Personally I don't like hood jeans, much prefer Draggin Jeans. They do make other stuff but not sure about jackets.

But the Kevlar is only placed in certain areas, which is a bit of a rip really. Pardon the pun!

hood jeans do look a bit better, as they have kevlar going round the ass, hip, thigh, knee and shin an stop above the ankle.

whether they have the abrasive resistance as draggin jeans is a different story.

will have to find out.

If you're not happy with the amount of kevlar in draggin jeans you can have more added at no extra cost, as well as any alterations to leg length etc, which is pretty good. Their theory is all the major points of impact / abrasion are covered, realistically you're not going to drag the inside of your shin along the ground for long, and if you did your boots should be taking the flak there. Draggin also use superior kevlar to Hood, who use the cheaper stuff.

I've two pairs of hood and 4 pairs of Draggin jeans, the hoods look a bit more everyday, but I'm not so keen on the cut of them. Still great though, and in the real world I think both will protect equally as well, as imo the Hoods have the kevlar where it's not really needed as well as where it is.

Stu - which Hood jeans do you have? I'm considering a pair of kevlar lined jeans and I'm not clear on whether the K7 or the Concept 6 Hood jeans are the best... given they're roughly equal in price, which offer the most protection?

It's either that, or Draggin - which do at least have videos of real people testing them by sliding down the road... shows confidence in the product I guess...

I've got the K7's mate. When I bought them I chose them because the nice lady on the phone told me to hehe According to their website they're still their flagship jean, whatever that means, presumably that they're still the most armoured.

Good jeans, not disappointed with mine though I do prefer the draggins as you might have guessed, bit more roomy, better fit for me and uses the better armour, though in hood's favour I'd say they're the better made garment.

Cheers Stu - will go for the K7s then. I'm finding myself going faster and faster so really ought to have some protective gear on my legs smile

bks. Too many options - the E-Squad ones posted up on another thread looked the best, but cost a fortune and only appear to be available in some shop on the Kings Road, Chelsea which isn't really my usual stomping ground.

The Draggin jeans have a video of someone testing their product for real, so product confidence.

The Hood jeans are made in UK and have more kevlar in them, also Stu says they are the better made garment.

Now there's the Red Route 'ultimate rider' - and having checked out their website I really like the design of those (very much like the G-star Raw jeans I wear all the time, especially with the 'articulated' knees rather than straight jeans).

All (apart from the E-Squad) are less than £100 which is sod-all compared to big gravel rash.

Decisions, decisions... I'm starting to *really* like the Red Routes, can anyone tell me whether they are badly regarded compared to Hood and Draggin? I'm pretty much a standard fit sort of guy, a bit slim and underweight perhaps, but don't need any special adjustments, I'm not fat, short or hugely tall, just average really.

The bugger is that many of these are web-order only (or have to trek to Chelsea and 'Beautiful Motorcycles' or whatever they're called) - I can't try each of the brands on. I suppose for £300 I could buy one of each... but that'd be wasteful.

I've never heard of the red routes, but having just checked them out I think I might try a pair, like yourself they seem a similar style to the jeans I normally kick about in.

Draggin's I've seen crashed in twice by a mate, and they've been fine afterwards, which is why I put a lot of faith in them, but I'm sure they're all much of a muchness provided they fit well.

The Red Route Ultimates look cool, so I've ordered a pair. The cut looks suspiciously like G-Star Raw's range of jeans and I fit those perfectly, so with luck they'll be a good fit. They also look good enough to wear off the bike!

I've got mates who pay £180 for a pair of normal fashion denim jeans (and in my youth I was stupid enough to as well) so £100 for armoured, kevlar lined bike-safe jeans that also look decent is a bargain in my book. Both Draggin and Hood looked just like flat-fronted 'normal' jeans which I don't tend to wear any more - and the E-Squad ones (which also look pretty damn cool) are just too expensive.

Anyway that done, I'm off for a ride in the sun smile

Draggin' also do some that are water resistant as well, not up to a total downpour but a mate of mine wears them and reckons they're great fine for showers and wet roads.

I've actually crashed in some. I landed a wheelie into a pothole from quite low speed and spilled off. Fortunately I was wearing some MX knee armour under my Draggin' Jeans because they holed just at the knees just as easily, in my opinion, as regular denim.
I've got another pair, just becaust I like their style and they're very hard wearing, but unless your crashes leave you skating on your arse (as per their promo pics) I wouldn't trust them to save my skin without extra protection.
