I know this is a bit of a long shot guys but I have just found out that I am going out to Chicago tomorrow and wondered if its worth buying any clothing over there. Is it cheaper as i imagine and anywhere recommended? I have my DAS this weekend and test next week and need to buy the full kit. (Boots, Textiles, Lid, Gloves, anything else i have forgotten)

It might be but it all depends on what you want! When in Canada recently we bought some Olympia textile kit (not available in the UK) having seen it receive good reports on various sites and seeing as it was keenly priced. Lids may be an issue as the ones we looked at were (a) a lot more expensive than in the UK and (b) not ECE/ACU marked so possibly dubious in the event of an accident / insurance claim (not from a point of protection but for giving insurers a chance to wheedle out of paying up).

There's also the risk of being clobbered by customs on the way back into the country should you exceed your limit.

If you do decide to go shopping I recommend you locate some stockists before leaving the UK, especially if you've a limited timescale.
