I have an issue where my driveway is too narrow to allow a bike past the cars parked on it, which means i find my bike blocked in a lot, not ideal when you need to ride it for experience.

Whats the story on leaving it on the road overnight? i live in a quite street and could move my car forward a little to allow some space in front of the house to park it at an angle (i could potentially chain my bike to my car overnight) i use a disc lock on the rear and a chain through the forks for security as it is.

I guess theres nothing wrong in doing that except it'll be easier to pinch. However could i cover it? the cover i have has a silver reflective panel on it from front to back, would it be legal?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

i would just park the cars so you can fit it through. there area a few parked down my road on the road, and they havnt been nicked, ones been sitting there for about 8 years (might have been riden a few times too :P)

but personally i wouldnt, i would put my bike in my garage with a ground anchor, disk locks on both wheels, alarm, immobiliser(paranoid........possably but tis my pride an joy an some aholes about vanderlising anything nice or new, or that they can reach, some they cant with sticks an stones, and stealing everything that isnt nailed down to buy crack, then the crack gives them the power to get the stuff that is nailed down ) lol

Ground anchor, disc lock, alarm, bike cover and a baseball bat on standby in case you need to educate someone trying to rob it.

Defo cover it and try to secure the cover using a chain, that'll keep it anonymous as well as making sure nobody nicks your cover! Ultimately, you know what sort of area you live in but there is always a chance someone will do something stupid - if you've got a drive (and it's insured as parked there) then use it - perhaps put a car on the road so you can get the bike out? I'd have thought a bike much easier to steal & much more likely to attract negative attention.

Just leave it on the road. Its insured, if it gets nicked so what - thats what insurance is for.

My bikes live in the garage now because I have one but for years they just lived on the road, didnt bother me one jot as if anything happened I'd let the insurance sort it out! That said, if people could start some of my bikes then they are welcome to them!!! wink

When I move back, my folks have a double garage but always have the motorhome parked on the drive right up to it.
Having said that, my Dad's dirt bike was nicked out of the garage, the pikies pushed the motorhome back, drilled out the garage lock and had his bike away!
Bit late now, but the m/h has on wheel clamp things, the garage is deadbolted inside and alarmed. Gave them a real fright how vulnerable they were.

You just need to let the insurance know. Unless your bike is desirable the biggest problem that my brother has was people spat on his 125 in london (nice) and some clown reverse in to his fazer in the small suffolk town he lives in know and buggered off - bike was written off.

The other issue is that if your bike is a bandit and you live in the sttier areas of london people are occasionally tempted to write "arse" in tippex over "bandit".

Def check your insurance - mine has (and has always had iirc) a clause which says that if it's at home, it has to be in the garage between something like 10pm and 6am otherwise it's not covered.

As for the "let the insurance sort it out if it gets nicked" comments above - ultimately true, but I would say there speaks the voice of either someone who only owns a snotter, or someone who's never had a bike nicked.

Walking out to look at a now empty/previously occupied space, calling the BiB, filling in forms, discussing it for 2 hours with a loss adjuster, etc etc, is not my absolute favourite way of spending several days.

What sort of bike is it? I mean, if it's worth stealing, someone will probably give it a go. And if it's very desirable, it'll go despite your security arrangements.
Sorry to sound like a pes, pessi, negative, but the theives are out there.
