Yeah, it's getting in and out Hampshire that's going to be wet. Never been to Applecross, know several people who rave about the area though. Couple of mates I'm going up with tomorrow have got the whole of next week of and are going right round the Scottish coast. I was very tempted to join them.

Heavy old bikes and that triple sounds like a diesel at idle but nice and comfy. Is it a shaftie?

If the weather is good, I'm going to take a ride to my nearest Ducati dealer - not looking at buying (yet?) but want to have a look around.

Saturday evening I'm out for a belated birthday meal with the wife - don't know where we are going, so it should be a nice surprise.

No, chain drive. I took it for a test ride with low expectations and was blown away - handles miles better than you'd imagine and that weight vanishes on the move - even at walking pace.

I rode a friend's 900 in about 2000. His was an R reg. He bought it before he passed his test so I had to collect it. I borrowed it a few times.

It felt top heavy (I nearly dropped it as the owner hopped on the back!) but fell into corners very easily. It certainly gave a good ride due to its weight.

Yeah, you can definitely feel the weight is at the top while putting it on the stand and the like. Amazingly though, when I looked up the dry weight on the net I found it was only 10-15Kg heavier than a vfr... it's certainly lighter than the old gpz1100 I used to commute on. I mainly bought it as something comfy to commute on though and it's supposed to be pretty efficient and has a good tank range. I'll keep the blade for weekends (when it works) wink

My friend did his bike license as a passing fancy so after a year or so the bike sat unused. I did try a cheeky offer a year or two later (I would have needed two tyres immediately) but he wasn't up for it.

Is the weight really that close to a VFR? I thought they were about 270kgs, with a VFR being closer to 220?

I believe the VFR is about 210Kg, the 900 trophy is about 220Kg and the 1200 is a bit more... they're not in the same weight league as the pan european. It's only a triple and hasn't got the weight of a shaft drive.

They feel a lot bigger than the vfr to sit on though. I haven't ridden a vfr (I sat on one and it felt too small to be much better in the weather than the blade) but the trophy I have bought has quite a large screen so at 85 you're in this bubble... it's pretty cool and I'm looking forward to commuting and heading up north on it. I wouldn't have one as my only bike though... that would be the blade.

My Tiger 1050 doesn't sound like a diesel at all. more like a Jap 4.
Mind you, my brother-in-law's 900 adventurer sounds like a London bus at idle !! smile
