Already seen the DVDs, and made the mistake of looking at Rach*'s links.

I've changed my mind about going with someone, as that's the surest way I know to split up a friendship.

I'd love to be able just to ffok off, but know that I can't just do a Reggie due to Mrs D, dogs, job, house...

I just fancy a road trip to take in the sights as I go. I'm not too bothered about going too fast, but would like some interesting diversion along the way.
A man after my own heart...
Hmmmm.... Honda Blackbird you say? Pick up en route in Berkshire? Morocco...?

I scarpered on my jack for a few days upto Scotland in July, armed with my wallet, tent, change of clothes and a map I just followed the tarmac, stayed off the motorways and enjoyed my own peace,
The reason i did it was more or less a recce as to what I need and dont need to carry should I do it abroad (next summer),
Destination unknown, but the roads to lead me there will be very enjoyable.

I know its abit late in the year, but if youre up foe a bimble and a brew I am off J20 of the 62.

Missus, three dogs, mortgage, just about to start new job, and considering selling the 'Bird for a BMW R1200GS actually. But if you're thinking about going in the spring for two or three weeks i could be VERY tempted. April/May?

The Lakes is too close, and I've spent too much time up there, albeit in my youth.
And not on a bike? If you've been there before in a cage it's a very different experience on a bike. If you've not done any travelling by bike before then why not do a fairly short taster run. A weekend could cover a fair chunk of the lake district, peak district and yorkshire dales, with one night camping to see if you enjoy being out on your own, and if you're happy doing that kind of travelling with liggage. The other option is pick a base location a days ride away, and spend a couple of night there allowing you a days riding with no luggage, but personally I prefer to end up in a different place every evening.

Does she know? Won't she mind you having two bikes? Although if you've sold her, it doesn't really matter I suppose...

I've no idea at the moment. Would travelling with others ruin a beautiful friendship? It's OK at the end of the day when you're having a beer and a laugh, but would you (I? We?) get fed up with someone else's riding style/way of doing things?

Or would the travelling be improved by "sharing" the experience with someone? Plus, it may help to have someone to hold hands with in case of problems, or even in the complete absence of problems, the knowledge that there is someone there if it does go tits up. (Help, I think I've caught "the Ghey"!).

Maybe a meet up beforehand or some PMing, and who knows?

Sounds daft, but I think there's better roads to do than the Lkes - it can get horrendously busy up there, and Cumbria SCP are a little too "eager" for my tastes (although I did do Shap on the A6 the other day).

I don't think I'd have any problems camping on my own, as I've done plenty, just not on a bike. I was thinking more along the lines of the Norwegian "Hytte"s in the other thread for accommodation, rather than soggy nylon.

Again, ditto. Yeah, perhaps a meet up sometime would be a good option and see how we get on eh? I'm getting older and slower you see, hence the change of bike biggrin
