I'll likely be talking to a dealer on my TT hunt as there are VERY few of these for sale. I have never bought from a dealer and so I'd quite like some advice as to how to haggle, how much I can haggle?

I will be looking at bikes in the 2.5k range which have been up for sale for over a month, some a lot more. How much can I expect to haggle this price down usually?

Should I be looking at getting the price down or getting them to give me clothing etc? What have people managed in the past?

Thanks!

How longs a piece of string, depends on how much profit is in the bike,(not a massive amount in a 2.5k bike) how much he wants to get rid etc, as always be friendly but firm and keep chipping away, when you've got the price to how you like ,then work on the extras, tell him/her if you can get x,y,z thrown in you'll commit to the deal now otherwise you'll shop around.

Ill be practising my haggling skills in 2 weeks when i get a new car, in bike shops haggle the price but it all depends on how much they bought the bike in for etc, then move on to you have seen them GP pro gloves that you fancy can you do them for 50 pound if so we shake hands and deals done.... etc etc

Be confident, when you say a price dont diver about be confident, look them in the eyes and dont say another word until they have agreed or declined your offer, thats the most important bit charisma and confidence.

Thanks very much. I've been thinking cutting at least 200 off (I've seen other bikes with lower mileage for same price) but I'm just not sure if that would fly.

Hmmm. Wish me luck...

Also pick up on things no matter how small you can always make the deal look sweeter to them, if theres any points you can point out like tyres nearly worn out, old chain, slight scrathes etc say well its gonna cost me x ammount to get a new set of tyres, chain aint been done in 12,000 miles / 5 years which is gonna cost me 150 pound so.... im gonna be abit cheeky how about 2100 etc etc... Start low and bargain! but dont supset the dealer by taking the piss too much lol

Easier with the car market atm cos they are all struggling.

As others have said, a dealer will always be more inclined to do you a deal on accessories or clothing - they have obviously paid less for that stuff in the first place.

If you find the bike you want, go for the kill with every single accessory/extra you want. They will be far more likely to accept than to knock cash off the price of the bike.

A good bit of advice I think I read on these forums is this ... if you're not offended by your low initial offer, then it isn't low enough!

Keep it friendly and smiley, don't be afraid to be cheeky and remember you can always turn around after you've started to walk away. Good luck!
