I've always been told to keep them hanging up outside (shed or garage, not the garden!). The heat inside does't do them too much good.

They should be hung up indoors. I don't think it's the freezing temperatures that you should be worrying about in the shed, but the mice that will view the leathers as a great winder lodging.

Hi BR -

I asked the same sort of question a while ago:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

My leathers are now stored inside the house, as is my helmet. The rest of my gear (boots, jacket, trousers) are in the garage, hung up in one of those temporary steel framed wardrobes that you can buy from Argos and the like.

Do people treat their leathers when storing them & if so with what? im sure ive heard somewhere of using leather carseat restorer on them.

I do exactly this. Its great way of checking the temperature before a brekky run.

As far treatment goes, mine have a light but tough coating of dead bugs that does a fine job of keeping them nice.

Which reminds me, Ive got some zips to get repaired before the sun comes out. Ill add it to the list....

I cover mine in a thick layer of Dubbin before storing then polish that off before use in the spring. It helps keep the leather soft and protected.

Definatly feed them properly before putting them away. I always use Renapur on anything leather.

Mine get stored on the floor of the spare room where I lobbed them last! Crash helmets where there is space and boots out in the back shed...

Generally the cat sleeps on the leathers and then I see how much cat hair is all over them and decide I can't be bothered to clean them and wear them. Seems like a good state of affairs! I don't look like I've had a sartorial failure and the cat has a nice bed!
