Retreating Textiles
Discussion
How & what with do you lot suggest?
my textiles are now on their second winter & while not leaking they appear to hold more water than they used too. i dont want to replace them as they is bugger all wear so they should last years more.
can i just spray them with fabsil or similar or is there a special treatment for them?

I use these products on bike and hiking gear http://www.grangers.co.uk/
Use the Tekwash linked above, then the TX wash in waterproofer to reproof them. Works really well, you just chuck it in the washing machine, but make sure you clean any gunk out of the detergent tray first.
Millets or similar places sell both.

You'll be wanting some of this then
It's cheaper at Hein Gericke - about £3.99.I've just washed all my gear through with it - you really need to make sure there isn't a trace of fabric conditioner softener, so I take out the washing machine drawer and give it a scrub, then run through a few dog towels on a hot wash toflush the machine.
Wash as per the instructions on the Nikwax and your gaments. This is usually a 30 degree wash to protect the Gore Tex membrane (if there's one fitted). You might find that a 30 degree wash only has a slow spin, so I generally give my stuff another high speed spin. It also helps when spinning if the stuffs inside out, so that the water can get through any membrane. It really does make a difference if you just spin it "right way round".
Once your gear's all dried, it's worth doing the outside with a textile proofer. I'd recommend this stuff. Again, avaiable at HG for about a tenner a pop.
I now sound like a laundry uber-geek.
I do hope you mean re-watreproofing, and not that your gear's running away in battle... Of the bulge...
