KTM 520 EXC (2002) supermoto conversion??
Discussion
i have just bought one and im looking to convert it to a supermoto as i plan on riding mainly on road.
Right my question - What needs doing and what are the costs associated with the conversion? (where i can get these things from would also help)
I have been looking into it myself and have found this.
- 17" wheels and tyres £500
- 320mm front disk £100
- extension bracket for new disk £50
- Rear Sproket not sure on price
What else should i be budgeting for?
Also on a childish note i know the bike shifts off road but with the new sprokets to change the gear ratio how quick would it be on the roads>?
All help would be great
Thanks
Chris

I'm popping across to JD Racing in Cornwall tonight to pick out my Father Day present.
They are also a KTM Dealership, I could ask a couple of questions for you?

Pop your head in to http://www.ktmforum.co.uk/ there's a very helpful Supermoto section there.

I did my 525 a few years ago - I found 15/45 worked well on the street.
I eventually went with an ISR master cylinder (the stock enduro cylinder is crap on the road and useless on the track), 320mm Braking disc, caliper and caliper bracket.
You can pick 'em up from e-bay or on the various SM forums used or http://www.roostracing.co.uk/supermoto.php is very good, too.
I also ran mine with a full Doma system, which gave good power and wasn't ear-splittingly loud. Get it set-up on a dyno, though, trial and error with the jets is fiddly stuff and never seems quite right - no matter what someone else's bike seems to like.
Don't expect masses of pub-ammo power. The 525 is more about torque and rideability.
A good mod, if you going to commute on it (apart from an Almax IV chain and top-drawer Squire lock), is an aftermarket KTM fan.

You still have it then?I eventually went with an ISR master cylinder (the stock enduro cylinder is crap on the road and useless on the track), 320mm Braking disc, caliper and caliper bracket.

Sorry dude - she was another one of my five-minute wonders. I wanted a bike I could race and ride on the road and I thought the EXC was it. It wasn't. I eventually went with an ISR master cylinder (the stock enduro cylinder is crap on the road and useless on the track), 320mm Braking disc, caliper and caliper bracket.

Great as a road bike, but too slow on the track - the pick up just ain't quick enough and the hit isn't as hard as the SX.
It was a frickin' mutha off-road, tho. Woof! What a tractable, leggy beast.
Yeah, junk the stock caliper, m/c and disc, firm up the suspension (thicker fork oil works - check ktmforum.co.uk for details), sort the exhaust out and away you go!
