May I add my second entry for today! (it's been a busy day!)
Here's my wrist being de-casted! Doesn't look safe to me
And after!!
You may have noticed my crude sound/smell effects.
My other arm isn't working out too well, the surgeon doesn't like the look of the X-Rays at all, the broken bone fragments have compacted and aren't growing leaving my joint very weak. He's is giving it 6 weeks to heal but if there's no improvement he wants to fuse the joint leaving me pretty much disabled for life. I've decided I'll fuse my foot in his arse before I allow that to happen. Second option, which he seems to think it's the worst of the two is a full joint replacement. This would give me good useage/movement but they wear out, so I'll need a new one now and again. They last 20 years or so in eldery people, but for a 32 year old Downhill Mountain Biker / Motorbiker it might only last 10. To be honest I'm feeling a major surgery once every 15 year average as the lessor of two evils!!
Anyway, I have a private surgeon expecting my call, Swiss fella, works in Bahrain where my folks live, if he can opperate I might try to book it in to watch the Bahrain GP afterwards.
Oh yes, I thought I'd make the most of having a working Elbow (sorta) whilst I still could so took the CBR out for a spin up to Downs Cafe afterwards, a bit wobbly and some of the other bikers mush have though I was having some kinda MJ issues because I could only get one glove on but hey ho, whilst I still can and all that.
No, no, noooooooooooooooooooooo.....what the hell happened there? Love the fused foot in his arse coment!!Here's my wrist being de-casted! Doesn't look safe to me

Fusing is a kind of " I don't have the talent or resource to fix you properly" kind of statement and a bit of a last stand ( there's no going back from one of those ops) and a good quality joint replacement with good physio and a brace when you put it through its paces might suffice or at least give you a few years grace. Also joint replacements are getting more clever by the day in regards to function and resilience so I'm with you on that one. It does tend to be a 3 strikes and you're out with surgery though. In foot ops we'll only fuse at the third round due to the tissues being so scarred in the area that further surgery would be cack to heal up

In short. I had a mountain bike crash about 5-6 weeks ago. I hit a rock that was under some grass at full attack speed. The impact turned the wheel/bars and snapped my wrist, thats the pic above. The rest is kind of a blur, but I landed on my head (a good helmet is was i'm not posting this from the afterlife) and came down on my other Elbow on somebig pointy rocks.
I didn't know it. but I'd opened the Elbow to the bone, in fact, I was using this arm to cradle the wrist.
Got taken to hopital in an amblulance and pretty much straight into surgery because I was pumping out Clarat from 3 big holes in my Elbow.
They had to go in and clean out the wounds because of the threat of infection as they were full of mud and what-have-you from the floor, they also said the "hook" shaped part of my Elbow was smashed into more bits than could be counted on xray, mushed was how it was described. I've got a big 'L' shaped plate in there and 4 skrews holding it in place.
Went in today to have the cast taken off the wrist, the surgery for the Elbow took so long that they couldn't fix the wrist at the same time. It was done two weeks later so they're out of sync.
Basically the hook bit hasn't healed very well. The bits have further compacted and its not growing, its also not forming a very good joint.
The only ray of light I got today was my surgeon, Mr. Martin said he treats the person, not the Xray and I feel a lot better. I've got pretty good range of movement and very little pain, certainly enough to ride the CBR today, if a little tenderly, but I'm terrified I'll have to have it fused. It would kill me. I don't really enjoy drinking, not a great reader or cinema fan, not really a stay in kind of person. I love to be outdoors riding my bikes with my friends.
I'm trying to stay positive, I'll leave no stone unturned to find an acceptable solution. I've even come to terms with quiting the mountainbiking because I can't risk another big crash and I don't think the elbow will take the sort of strains the type of riding I like to do has. But if I lost my motorbike too....
Sorry about the long rambling post. It's been abit if a day.
