I'm not sure you should be overtaking on roundabouts?
To be honest, I find most drivers are more than happy to give some space and let bikers through the traffic. I guess it's no inconvenience to them and we don't hold anybody up. Why try and race us when you know as soon as you hit the traffic lights we'll be filtering to the top of the queue wink

Time and a place. I had loads of good tussles with bikes in my Skyline .
Had a good tussle with a Skyline when i had my Busa,it was a well known 1000hp model in the area.We just met at a corner, loads of free, quiet long stretches of country roads ahead,it had a feeling of inevitability(check that spelling,it's 9.29!) about it.Fortunately, more luck than judgement we never quite went over 70mph so that was good.hehe

Get over yourself mate!

You must be the paragon of talent behind the wheel doing your best Richard Burns impression on a roundabout.

Many bikers have big accident's on roundabout because of Diesel, getting clipped by drivers not looking or muppets in crappy Fords trying to blitz the biker to prove their limited talent. Some of us are looking out for just your type of muppetry.

You seem to be just the type of vehicle I spend my time on the road avoiding.

If you need to get round then go around and do it safely and everyone is a winner. If you can't then don't look for excuses to blame the biker.

I am always amazed at the (over) reactions of bikers when they get passed. I drive all sorts of cars every week, some very slow, some very quick; & I am always aware of bikers and will move in to give them room to go past me ( I started out on bikes).

I find it usually happens approaching and through a roundabout, eg I am making my usual progress, aware of all around me, minding my own business (just slightly quicker than others).

However after passing the bike(S) in and through the roundabout you then get mr angry from suzuki who somehow thinks he owns the road and the fact some sty hatchback (eg a crappy Ka) has just shown him how to read the road ahead and make progress accordingly, then results in much demonstration and pointless reaction.

No, I wasnt taking a bike on, I was just driving at my usual speed, aware of all around me, and once again surprised by the lack of road craft displayed by today's bikers which matched with their aggresiveness (arrogance?) is a very poor show on our crowded roads (with car drivers who in general are not aware of whats around them).

Bike drivers; use your mirrors and get out of the way if someone has caught up on you, its not rocket science - you are in the way now move over!
Smart. Now, where's the Ford ka forum so I can go on there and moan about all the times I've been held up going through a roundabout by a stty Ford Ka?

Roundabouts are full of potential dangers to bikes, and many bikers prefer to use the 'overtaking' lane if possible as it's less commonly used by HGV's therefor less likely to be slick with diesel spills. Whilst you may get a little understeer in your car (which you'd no doubt gather up in the style of the driving God you like to tell us you are), the options for the biker are usually less appealling.

Have you thought that maybe Mr Biker was just trying to make his own steady progress? True he may not have seen you approach quickly from behind, preferring to read the road ahead rather than study the limited visibilty he gets from his mirrors. I too drive quickly through roundabouts, but the number of times I've been held up by a bike could be counted on Jeremy Beadles shrivelled claw. Cars, on the other hand ('scuse the pun)...

As for him speeding back past you, maybe his vehicle just accelerates significantly faster than yours?

I am AMAZED by the amount of car drivers who seem totally ignorant to the fact that their cars are not only designed to drive on straight roads, but can actually manage more than 15mph round corners, this annoys the hell out of me even when i am out in my car furious

The amount of people who brake like hell to then just potter round a corner, and then proceed to accelerate back upto 60mph before slowing painfully down for the next minor bend... s!!

Vehicle manufacturers should include in adverts for their cars 'also capable of going round a corner faster than you can walk round it on foot'

fking pisses me right off!! shoot

BTW, i know that's a piss poor rant but just needed to say it smile

You want to move to a less OAP area.

I hardly see anyone like that round here.

It's not just OAP's... they would never get to 60mph in the first place!! These 'fking-scaredy-cat-can't-take-a-corner-at-a-sensible-speed' merchants are all over the country mate!

Does my fking tits in mad And it always happens when you have just entered a decent stretch of road with some lovely sweepers on and you come across these s on every one of those lovely corners. Grrrrr!

Sounds like you weren't allowed to have a bike when you were 16, so what if they are young dumb and full of cum, at least they are on 2 wheels, and I expect Rossi had big dreams when he was on a mini moto.

They have to start somewhere.Would you rather have roads full of riders who have 'come up through the ranks',or roads full of middle aged tools who just do DAS and think they're the bees knees from the off, wobbling round on their shiny new litre bike?
The 'smoking from junctions' is usually nothing more than getting out of the way of the brain-dead gimps surrounding them in cars. And I still think I'd be faster than Rossi on my favourite road on my bike biggrin.

Sometimes, you know, just sometimes,we don't always want to be ragging the living daylights out of our bikes, hoisting a minger on every available patch of tarmac,or grinding our sliders through every corner/roundabout.Sometimes we may not know the road,or we may be very aware that a certain bit of road is like an ice rink all year round due to one reason or another,or is full of that crappy pointless shingle stuff our councils see fit to waz all over the roads. Sometimes we like to just enjoy the feeling of riding a bike just because we can.And its usually at times like these, that some goon in a crap hatchback takes the chance to show us 'how its done'.
Here he comes, all crossed up,dab of oppo here, dab there. He loves the roundabout,as its a bit slippy, and he can show us all how to drive.Only jesting pal,but every now and again,we just can't be arsed...Or the rider really is crap.
Oh,and why should a bike move over? If you wish to overtake, you can do it as you would a car. There is no need for him to ride in the gutter. This was the first thing I told my son as he passed his CBT.Its a dangerous place to be on a motorbike, especially a slow one,as everyone will try to squeeze past. They have paid their tax,and have as much right to the road as everyone else.

It's good to see that despite someone telling us how he likes to go into roundabouts faster than anybody else, and overtake any unsuspecting slower bikers in the process (read: cut up) nobody here really reacts to it.
It proves a point that as bikers we have to just take the actions on one idiot in our stride and deal with it. 10 seconds later it's all forgotten, and we're wondering how best to position the bike for the next corner, or the fastest route through that traffic jam.

hello all wavey
I've had a play with a couple of bikes....
I don't think the first chap knew I was playing hehe I followed him out of the Blackwall tunnel to see if my little car could keep up with him... it did. Although, as I said, I doubt very much that he was trying...
The second chap had a pillion and we were having some fun near Rye... we waved when went off our separate ways... sorry if I held you up smile

ps - It is fun playing with bikers... you lot seem like nice chaps. I just have to keep reminding myself that you can stop *far* quicker than I can

Unlikely...a few years ago some mag did a brake test which showed how a base spec Renault Clio 1.4 could easily outbrake all the bikes they put up against it frown

Wow! I would never have thunk it Dr.D
I generally leave a fair gap between a bike making progress and myself and I must say, I generally have to really stand on the breaks to keep the distance between me and the bike

It's fun to have a play! When I'm out driving and come across a bike or two (or they come at me from behind is more the norm) it's always fun to up the pace a little. However, if they are insistent on passing, it's much better for everybody if you stand down. hippy

I would like a car fast enough to be able to give some bikes a run for their money. To me, a fast car has much more kudos than a fast bike. But traffic is always against you, a bike can always overtake easier and get through traffic. So instead of the Cerbera, it may have to be the Street Triple next year hehe

And so you should mate. There's nothing more scarey than being tailgated by a car when on a bike.

Running in the back of a car = busted bumpers. Running in the back of a bike = massive damage to both rider and machine. You effectively lock the back wheel (when the front of the car climbs up over the back wheel of the bike) leaving bike either run over or skidding along in whatever traffic you were in.

A fact that many car drivers don't seem to appreciate.
