Nice collection Alvington!

I wouldnt discount the 125cc strokers of that era either, although they are less likely to have survived as well as the 250's. They are about though, if you keep an eye out.

TZR250s (the first model, up to about H reg) are very cheap at present, even for a minter. I think they, along with the RG250 are good buys at present.

Decent RS250s already seem to command prices well into the £2-3k range.

As a guide on the old Brit bikes, there's a mid-50's BSA Shooting Star (sporting version of the A7 twin) completely immaculate and with 5500 documented miles from new in this months Classic Motorcycle. It's up for £5.5k, which is (if anything) £500-1k more than a good one with normal miles and having been rebuilt (a few times). Goes to show that if you're working purely on getting a production model and keeping the miles down, you'll have to keep it a very, very long while. I would bet that as a percentage, far more A7SS's were 'trimmed' in the 60's rocker era than any moderm machine!

Our Bantam (which is the really rare and collectable 1967 D10 sports) has only done 3500 miles, but I doubt it's worth that much more than a really well restored one, especially since it got run over hehe

i'm hoping my mint original model '99 RSV1000 in black/silver, had it from new.
Not used it for a while but can't seem to sell it. It 'looks' to me worth so much more than the 2k or so the current value is, surely good ones can't get any cheaper before going up?

↲I always wanted to ride an rg500, loved the exhausts and the whole bike really; never got the chance. I owned an rgv in the same colours as yours but it was just too small for me. Love the Pepsi paint scheme - there is a nice looking one on e bay but it is up for 4 grand !

The ebay one is not an original Pepsi (just been painted by DM in those colours) Very optimistic pricing IMHO (even if it was an original)

Great bike in their time but you'd be disappointed riding one now. I had one in 1989 and loved it, moved onto FZR1000, EXUP, 'blades & GSXR1000.

My friend recently obtained an RG & spend alot of time & money doing it up & would I like a go? - wish I hadn't now.

Should have learnt my lesson as the same happened when I looked to buy a 350LC a couple of years ago, the test ride made it feel slower, worse handling/braking and even smaller than what it did from 20+ years ago!

As much as I'd like another X7, 350LC, YPVS, RD/RG500 or even a 1000 Genesis I couldn't justify investing money in a bike & not wanting to ride it for fear of losing it's value. Still nice to look at though....

My Buell, which, thanks to the shortsighted dimwits at Harley Davidson, will soon become a rare collector's item.

No plans to sell though cos I love it! smile

You are talking asking prices SPS. Sellers over value, buyers under value, it's a fact of life. And just like houses, it's a touchy subject. Until a buy hands over the cash, and the buyer takes a loss (except under rare circumstances), any value of these assets is posturing and talk....

Thats the thing I spend my life in Forza Italia and Baines and they are flying out the door for top dollar, going up to good money and rightly so, the 996R was limited to 500 and my SPS to 2000.

No joke Clean Gilera Runner 125 2 Stroke Scooters are going for big money looking at 1k for a decent one and was 6/700 a couple of years ago. I used to own a absolute mint aprila sr125 and had several offers for people to buy it I think most things that are 2 stroke are going to go up in value really if they have been looked after as a lot are abused and get wrecked meaning the clean bikes that are left are becoming quite desirable.

No chance mate, not for a long long while. Scooters have limited value due to limited desirability. The ones you mentioned and the money you said about will be because they were renowned as good bikes so people are now looking to get decent ones to use. They won't go up significantly in the future until they possibly get old enough so that people buy them for nostalgia reasons as has been seen with Fizzies/SS50's etc.
