Bikes that will gain value

This thread is over five years old. How many of the bikes suggested in 2010 have gained in value in the intervening years?
not many ..when you consider there has been 20% inflation over the last 5 yearscertainly my 89 ZXR750h1 never seems to move...its always a £1500 to £2k bike

Maybe that's part of its appreciation though, as it's not devalued as well as suffering inflation certainly my 89 ZXR750h1 never seems to move...its always a £1500 to £2k bike

Same with zx7r's, my brother has had 3 and paid £1500ish every time, from about 2007 and I paid £1500 for mine in November. I think you get a lot of bike for the money with bikes like this and early k series gsxr's and zx6r's etc. certainly my 89 ZXR750h1 never seems to move...its always a £1500 to £2k bike
My dad had a mint zxr750 h1 a few years ago which he was going to keep to make a few quid on but soon saw the values were staying steady.
Interesting to re surface this thread almost 10 years later, someone mentioned the 2 strokes as a fair bet, that was a great tip, rgv250’s have done very well and are hard to find. Enduros have done well in the last 3 years, with 80’s models doing well, honda xl and xt, and the klrs and klx, yam tt’s are also popular.
Fireblades have done ok, but not as well as i was expecting, urban tiger being the model to buy
90’s jap stuff is starting to go well now and could be a hot tip..
Old brit stuff is a strong market
My money is still on the 2 stroke market though.
Rs250, rgv, tzr.. 125’s also being desirable and seemingly rare.
Wildcard, anyone seen the price of italjets dragster lately? They always seem to sell.
All that said, if you are buying for investment, bikes aint that good, you should have been buying fords mk3 xr3’s 3 years ago for 2500, because today they are making 5-10k and look set to continue rising like escorts do.

Strange timing of this post given that we are facing a global depression. I suspect prices are going to soften considerably over the next year or so. Long term they will probably recover though.Fireblades have done ok, but not as well as i was expecting, urban tiger being the model to buy

boo yah! I've had mine since new. That said, it'll be a long long time before it's worth what I paid for it new, and even longer if taking historic value of money into account. And this is the thing with appreciating value - it's when you've been lucky to pick something at the bottom of its value curve that you get any return (less your holding/running costs!) on the vast majority of stuff. With the exception of two-stroke 250's (RGV, RS etc) in the USA I don't think I've seen anything newer than the RC30 which has actually increased enough to have kept ahead of inflation. Can anone think of anything modern which has increased in value from new?rodericb said:

A bit unrelated, I didn’t know Fords had gone up that much!, roughly what would an ‘88 RS Turbo be worth now?.Fireblades have done ok, but not as well as i was expecting, urban tiger being the model to buy

I'm in Australia so I'll use local numbers. New they were $34,995 (plus ORC's). There are two on bikesales.com.au for $20k.Edited by bimsb6 on Sunday 26th April 11:17

The problem with cars is the continual cost of keeping them decent. Once the tin worm has taken hold, it never stops. I did it once, never again! Bikes are easier to keep. zzrman said:
Low mileage prices on these have stayed the same for the last 3 to 4 years , if you start putting miles on them then expect them to drop. Alot end up at BMW dealers and they have the resources to just let them sit in the showroom for a year or 2tedblog said:

It has about 4,500 miles on it so I expect it to hold its value. Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
