Acceleration is defined equally by weight and power (F=ma). So to lose a few kgs is the same as gaining s few bhp. I'm not sure why Jackal sees one as more genuine than the other.

Top speed is of course defined by drag vs power.

Plotloss is right though, cars are conceptually quicker, if the power to weight ratio is good enough. Take a Formula Renault for example: they do 0-100 in 4.9s. Even the fastest superbikes won't do that. Yet the FR has only 400bhp/tonne, yet the superbikes are well over double that (obviously adding a driver/rider disadvantages the bike greatly, but it'd still have a better power to weight ratio).

Finally, I wish people would stop comparing race rep superbikes with big comfy supercars. It's not a fair comparison. The car equivalent of an R1 is a road legal Radical, which would blow an R1 into the weeds (yes, I've checked the lap times and it's about 6 seconds per minute, which is the difference between my old racing Metro and my racing Caterham...).

Both have endearing qualities though :-) I 'm happy liking both :-)

Not used one of these in a while and this seems as good a reason as any:

rofl

Btw, if a bike isn't fast when it has the same power to weight ratio as a car, does that mean all cars aren't fast too? scratchchin

p.s. People who don't use the motorway properly do need a slap! redcard

A bike has no weight so it's not truly quick. Put it this way, if any of my cars, even my lowly volvo estate was as light as a bike then it would SMOKE any motorcycle you care to name.
Oh, la-di-dah! Look what I found in my laundry bag! All of Felicity Kendal's underwear, and it needs a good wash!

Bring your car up here and I'll show what a big bike can do to a top end car.

Brilliant, a guy who can drive really fast (probably somewhere near the limit of his Ovlov) on a motorway in a straight line catches a bike up that's being ridden at half its potential, then get supset when it clears off into the distance.

I do wish someone had told me bikes were slow though before I fell off, as I seemed to travel a long way very quickly before coming to a painful stop. I'm sure if I'd known they were slow that I'd have been less injured.

id have to disagree with you there chap.

you bring your a radical with you driving and i will provide a BB Member with a modern sportsbike. i can bet a tube of jaffa cakes that your not within 6 seconds BEHIND him, let alone in front.

Ridiculous comparison to draw. Try putting an 800cc engine in an FR car and have it hit 215mph.

Try putting a volvo engine in a bike- for one thing you won't get near the power of a superbike, and even if it was it'd never rev high enough to shift it.

The main thing with fast bikes is that you get to dress up like a power ranger...

The voice of the washing machine = my dad!

He did a lot of young ones sound effects (in the front of our house which doubled as a recording studio) with various things - including my cricket bat and a coconut for the the VIVA EL PRESIDENTE! part of "Oil"- plus baked beans being poured from one pan to another for "Sick".

Great times, he is very much missed!

and to the op,

You're on. I don't own a Radical, but I'd be happy to drive one. I know from looking at the lap times I'd be just ahead of a BSB machine. A road bike would therefore be easy meat.
