There is a video of an Atom 300 driven by Clarkson against a CBR600R? ridden by a top rider round the topgear track. The Atom was over 4 secs quicker....
Car beats bike on car show with a host that absolutely hates bikes... shocker.

Bike vs Car bullst is always funny.

Lets talk real world here... you both both blast along a nice country road, keeping up with each other having a hoon.

THEN...OH NO... there a caravan with 4 cars stuck behind it!!!!

Bike nips by in seconds and enjoys the clear road ahead thanks to the caravan... car sits in the traffic doing 40mph getting frustrated.

So to summarise - a biker didn't move over to let the OP past?

If I started a new thread every time a car driver didn't mover over for me, I think I'd soon be banned from the forum!!

Have you ridden a bike?

You need to tell the OP about the engine you're swapping, a 1600 car engine for a 1300 bike engine.

Yoda.

I can't believe people even debate this. Lap times exist on the web for virtually any car and bike you can think of; case closed.

The only remaining arguments are where people get a big heavy GT car and pit it against a full on sports bike. Or, in the case of the above video, get a full on race bike to race a big heavy GT car in a straight line.

This debate is as silly as comparing sailing with windsurfing, or running with cycling. It's all fun - enjoy what you do guys!! But don't kid yourself into denying raw lap times ;-)

End of the day, bikes are faster than cars in 90% of real world situations.

Don't get me wrong, I adore cars with an unhealthy passion, they are brilliant BUT when you barrel into a bend leaning over and hanging off, then gassing it as the road straightens up is unmatchable. It's an assault on the senses that no car can replicate.

Finally, I wish people would stop comparing race rep superbikes with big comfy supercars. It's not a fair comparison. The car equivalent of an R1 is a road legal Radical, which would blow an R1 into the weeds (yes, I've checked the lap times and it's about 6 seconds per minute, which is the difference between my old racing Metro and my racing Caterham...).

Both have endearing qualities though :-) I 'm happy liking both :-)
id have to disagree with you there chap.

you bring your a radical with you driving and i will provide a BB Member with a modern sportsbike. i can bet a tube of jaffa cakes that your not within 6 seconds BEHIND him, let alone in front.

and to the op,

You're on. I don't own a Radical, but I'd be happy to drive one. I know from looking at the lap times I'd be just ahead of a BSB machine. A road bike would therefore be easy meat.
At which circuit? brands Indy? I doubt it? Snett, very probably.

Which Radical? There are a number of different ones you know? I seriously doubt an 1100cc Kwaker clubby would stand a chance. A 1585cc super sport spec PR06...is a different animal BUT you couldn't drive it on 'road' anyway, so not a comparison. The SR3 in road legal trim weighs a tonne, so don't just assume all Radicals are created equal.

FFS stop waving your cock around.

Amen Brother yes "car only" guys are clueless as to exactly what a ROAD BIKE can do in the right hands ...... we are not talking race bikes, these are off the shelf and ready to go......not some track day special

I love cars almost as much as I love bikes

the OP says this about a Clio 172...is he qualified to submit his OP to any forum?

"Yes ! If you drive it to its limits (and the wonderful thing is you can and will do on public roads) then it's a very quick car. I was behind a F430 the other day for 40 miles or so and off of roundabouts it was fairly easy to stay close or well in touch with him. The gearing seems short so 5th gear for overtaking is genuinely punchy at 4500rpm. As the magazines would say, on a mixture of give or take roads, well driven, it would keep up with almost everything out there."

y2blade, what are the lap times for the IOM TT, for a Superbike? Didn't a couple of car jockys have a go and couldn't match a bike.

Planes, that's where it's at.

Even a 747 is much faster to the USA than any car.

quickest lap of the mountain in a car I know of was the late Tony Pond in a rover SD1 racecar back in the late 80s/90s probably on YouTube somewhere.

I have more respect for bike road racers than any other competitors of any motorsport.
