Got my 1st trackday this Sunday and to say I'm shi##ing it is an understatement. yikes

Anyway, started getting things ready tonight and wondered what do you do regarding the tyre pressures. I know they should be dropped a little but by how much, do I take a few PSI out and check them after the 1st session?

Tyres are Supercorsa's.

Some guys I know checked the pressures after warming race tyres and there was only a PSI in it. If you are normal and not some god then don't reckon it make huge differences. Drop a PSi or 2 and see how it is on different sessions.

edit this was motard tyres though

No not yet, only in the novice group. Have heard that by using tyre warmers they help the life of the tyre by reducing the heat cycles, not sure how true this is? I can hire them from No Limits I noticed.

Yes thats correct, you'll be OK without warmers, just give it 2 or 3 laps at the start of each session to get them nice and warm.

Have fun and make sure you enjoy your first day, ask after the briefing for a bit of instruction as it's free, that will put your mind at ease.

Is that for all tyres on all bikes?. Considering it will be my first time and how cautious I normally ride I doubt it will make much difference but good to be as prepared as possible.

Pretty much all sports bikes, yup. It will make a difference, as your tyres heat up more due to a few factors such as grippier surface, higher speeds, harder braking (which you will be doing, compared to your road riding). If you leave your tyres at street pressures they will overinflate due to air expansion at temp, become hard, loose grip, feel and stuff.

Some tyres run really low pressures due to the compound, but it is unlikely the OP has these tyres.

31/29 is a reasonable guide

31/29 cold.

Check them when you come in off a session. You should be aiming at 35 to 36 hot on both front and rear (for sports road tyres)...or so I'm told, have done and seemed to work (as far as I can tell).

Adjust accordingly.

!!!!!!!!! 35 hot......fook me, surprised your not tearing them to shreds.

i agree with the pressures BN suggested (in mild weather thats what i use mesen) BUT i was always taught to set pressures red hot, either straight off the warmers or after a session, the pirelli bsb guys told me that aswell, they recommend 29f 27r (set hot) for fast group/racers on the supercorsa/racetecs.

So not really road tyres.. I'm talking Qually's, Corsa III's and the like....not track day 'hybrids'. As you know they are not built the same and need different pressure as the sidewalls are different and heat differently too.

Anyway, I'm st slow, so don't listen to me!

EDITTED AS I REREAD THE OP. He said Super Corsa. not corsa.

I set mine hot to Craig 27.5 rear and 29 front.

The OP isn't using warmers.

craig,

very interesting. I ran my Racetec K1 fronts at 1.9 hot. Always felt the front a bit "vague". Spoke to Rob Davies (you must know him as he's a face in the WSBK paddock a season or two ago) and he recommended 2.5 bar HOT!! So i tried it, and by god do i like it!! I run Michelin B compund slick fronts now, but again at 2.3-2.5 hot, and they are superb. No tearing at all, just a perfect wear pattern.
But agree on the rears, except the D211GP, which i run from 1.3 to 1.7 Bar hot depending on ambient temps.

I've got Michelin Power one's on at the minute, I set those hot at 21 rear and 26 front.

If it's supercorsa's I set those at hot at 27.5 rear and 29 front.

Hmmm, I wouldn't consider my bike a "sportbike" and the tyres are Pilot Road 2 which I would say is more of a sport touring tyre, not the sticky sort you lot have.

I think I will leave the pressures as they are then check them again when hot.
