From Wikipedia:

"Many countries deemed the use of seatbelts in conjunction with wearing a helmet to be unsafe. The added strain on the riders neck from the added weight of the helmet could cause significant injury to the restrained rider even in a low speed head-on collision
Hateful things. But that wiki comment is censored How is that any different to wearing a helmet in a car? I'll take my chances with one on my next car trackday thanks. Even without a hans device

I filtered through lanes very easily.. And shock horror i never wore a helmet once. I had the argument with 4 police officers. 3 of which didnt know anything about them and the fourth didnt understand why i didnt want to wear one! I ended up just laughing at him and asking for my ticket! @ no points btw just a fpn.
I'd have to side with the copper, why wouldn't you wear a helmet on one of these things? It might be a little safer than a conventional bike, but it's not a car.

Didn't BMWs testing show that the rider was safer without a helmet?

I have one of these, had it for 3 years now for my commute to the station. Couldn't live without it. Great bit of kit as I don't have to wear all weather gear.

Would I wear one without a helmet? No way. Would I wear the seat belt? No way. If you crash the thing you'd want to be away from it not caught under our in it.

Currently hear say as I can't be arsed to do any research (I am on my hols at the moment!) but I'm sure I remember various bike mags doing stories about the arrogance of the Department of Transport not even looking at the evidence and just stating that if it had 2 wheels and an engine then a helmet was mandatory.

One of the hateful things insists on parking next to/near me on a regular basis. It's a right shed and I keep finding it rammed up against my bike. Really bloody annoying as the rider (is that the right term ?) obviously doesn't give a st about anyone else's property. Just because they're riding a mobile shed covered in marks doesn't mean that you should inflict damage on someone else's machine.

What a thread resurrection.. For some reason I didn't see that listed/restricted in the re-sign up to PH T&Cs I just had to agree to post this. smile
Thankfully the owner of the C1 at my office either got rid of it and rides a proper bike or he left my company for whatever reason. Not seen it but better still heard that din off the engine for many years now smile

Also not seen one on my travels in London for many many years either - maybe all the owners got MP3s or their clones?
Anyone in London spotted one of these recently?

The windscreen is far too close to not wear a helmet so I smell BS. Your head would sustain serious injury in a collision.

Not if you're wearing the seat belt.

Trust me you dont want to be wearing that belt on the bike. It pins you in to the bike with your limbs flailing around in the wind. You get them caught under the heavy "bike" and its a serious injury.
I dont wear mine ever but always wear a helmet.

The link to the Quasar Site I posted needs updating so here it is.

http://quasarworld.co.uk/

A Quasar and it's occupants survived a hit from a Car on the French Motorways some time ago. The Cage and restraints working to keep the injuries down. I gather the rider walked away but the pillion needed surgery.

Video from 2010 of a Quasar in company with a few C1's
