Does a superbike feel as quick as an F1 car?
Sometimes quicker. An F1 car has so much drag that once you really get going the acceleration feels disappointing. You don't get the sensation that you do on a really fast bike that the acceleration is never-ending.
5th Gear/ Honda did a race on London City airport with their F1 car, racing superbike and a powerboat. The car and bike were about level upto 80-100mph then the car fecked off at an alarming rate.Sometimes quicker. Suppose high speed on a bike just feels really fast
the noise was incredible

Excellent and interesting interview. Brundle has a great way of finding very interesting replys to simple questions, i'd love to see an in depth interview about his past and life now on Parkinson or something.
Good to see him doing some racing again this year too, he was simply outstanding at Goodwood Revival.
In fact i'm amazed he hasn't had Lunch With Simon Taylor yet. Or done a Motorsport Magazine podcast yet. 'Cos they're the best. Good to see him doing some racing again this year too, he was simply outstanding at Goodwood Revival.

That made my day. My first ever bike was also a Garelli Tiger, and mine gummed up its exhaust as well. Even so, I though it was the best thing ever back then. Sadly, that it where our stories divert. I have always enjoyed Martin's F1 commentary - honest, perceptive and to the point. Nice to think we have at least something in common.
What he needs is a BMW K1300s. Lower and sportier than what he currently owns and super fast, yet can still tour.
Top bloke, F1 commentator and bike nut...spot on!
Got Hammond on the cards for next interview? he is bike fan aswell. I think Top Gear should have a 2 wheel section in its show.

I can well believe that the sensation of acceleration on a superbike is vastly greater though, because in a single seater you're almost lying down whilst driving. Michael Schumacher once commented how an F40 and Porsche 959 he was testing for a magazine felt quicker than an F1 car because you were sat upright. Now, most superbikes are much quicker than an F40 in a straight line, so would feel on a different planet of performance from a sensations point of view.
Even with my limited experience I can verify this. The quickest road car I've driven does 0-100 in 7.5 seconds, and that definitely felt quicker accelerating than the single seater that I race, even though of course the single seater is quicker.

Somehow while J Clarkson is the key presenter I suspect you'd have a better chance of muff diving Maggie Thatcher than that happening.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
