Yesterday te car needed jumping as it's not been used much, I jumped from my jeep and drove for about an hour thinking it would give it enough charge to re start. I was at my mates house and we wanted to go for a drive so he could see what the viper is like. Car wouldn't start, then to try jump it again from his car but it wouldn't play ball. So the next idea was to locate the battery and run down to halfords and replace it. After a quick YouTube search we found it was in the rear drivers wheel well, because that's easy to get to...
Wheel off, bolts out and found the battery, a lot smaller than I thought it would be for such a big engine. Couldn't get a battery that was same size so tried the closest we could get and attempted to get it in. Complete farse and after 20 mins trying we gave up and put the original back in and stuck it on charge for half a day. It started I got home but now I need to locate a replacment battery that will work. Are there suppliers in the uk for a 2002 gts battery?

Barry will tell you to go to USAutomotive and get one from there. Not only do you have to get one with the side terminals but you also need one with the correct (heavy duty) cranking amperage. If you go to USAutomotive mention that you are a Viper Club member (if you are!) and they'll sort you out. Only issue I found is I had to collect as their couriers will not carry batteries. While you are in there might make sense to clean and baking soda the battery tray - I also added a battery mat into mine to protect from leakage.
Oh, and be careful with the screws that go into the plastic - they thread really easily.

I had heard that since Fiat took over the Mopar ones were held in Italy and that they were not very good quaity, so you had a long lead time to delivery and a good chance of it being DOA. As is often the case I could be wrong though...
Battery showed up and was going to put it in but not sure if the terminals are side or top. I know it needs side and I did ask if it was side and they said yes over the phone but it does look like they are on top?
Also as I was listening the nuts one turned a few turns and then got stuck, has the thread been mangled? Should I keep trying or leave it as is and take it to the garage?

Well that's the Wrong battery 
The GTS Battery is Side terminals NOT TOP!
Send it back.
They really should have known better!
When you say you are loosening the nuts, do you mean on the old battery side terminals?
I think you only have to turn them a couple of times then pull/wiggle them off, its been a while since I disconnected mine. Try spraying a bit of wd40 on the screw thread and backing the screw in and out a few times
