Ultimately the market decides, do they fetch any more in the U.S. which is their natural market with LHD and cheap fuel?
Its hard to draw direct parallels but generally when i have looked the cheapest US cars will equate to the most expensive and unsold in the UK. I think it is also hampered by people not taking into account the true cost of a US car coming to the UK but rather look at the prices in USD on autotrader or ebay and divide it by the exchange rate and expect to pay that for a UK car, conveniently forgetting the 10% duty and 20% vat not to mention shipping, marine insurance, IVA/mot light conversions and registration all of which pretty much add back in that price difference on the exchange rate. The GenI in question
very well known as a good Viper in the UK club
Anybody interested in a well known black and silver RT/10?

An interesting discussion and I've noticed that prices don't seem to have moved on in the last ten years too. I had an S197 Mustang back in 05 and always thought at some point I'd swap it for a Viper. I've always loved them and my mate had one when I had the Mustang. Such a great car for the money.
When I eventually sold the Mustang I decided to go for an older classic and ended up with a 964T followed by an E30 M3 Evo II. In the four years I've owned the BMW it's at least doubled in value, maybe more and I've looked at what I could swap it for. I always look at Vipers but the static prices have put me off looking at one seriously. The sky seems to be the limit for E30 M3s at the moment and I think I'd regret selling. I'll always love Vipers but the current market means I doubt I'll buy one. If I was looking to keep one for a while I think it's a great time to buy, but as a relatively short term prospect (say three years), I'd worry about being able to move it on.
There was a modified black one for sale for ages (it may still be) which I really, really fancied, but ultimately I just couldn't do it. Having owned a Mustang and a few other yanks I have no problem with LHD or modifications but I can see why it would put a lot of people off. I also think they are in that modern, not quite yet a classic category which doesn't help matters.

Benny - hope you are ok, I certainly remember your old car well - and enjoyed watching its transformation from a standard s197 to a supercharged Shelby clone (then sadly crashed by its new owner)
I for one am glad Viper prices have stayed static thus far, it was one dream car that fortunately didn't get away due to me being priced out of the market, although I had to stretch my budget considerably from my original figure. They certainly aren't 'cheap', but waiting to buy AFTER they have started to rise doesn't make sense to me. IMO cars should not be bought as an investment, if they do go up that's a bonus, but I would hate to have regrets later in life about what cars I should have bought.
