My car (2006 coupe), is currently in the paintshop getting the front bumper redone to get rid of hundreds of tiny stonechips and a few scrapes underneath (mostly done before I got the car)

The painter (who comes highly recommended) has tried 2 stone white samples from his normal paint suppliers, but neither match the rest of the car

I've given him the PPG code, so he's trying that next

Anyone else had issues?

Why did he not use the paint code in the first place? odd

He used PW1 code for stone white from his normal supplier, hopefully PPG will be a better (ie perfect) match

.......will update when I hear back

all the paint codes are in the back of the service manuals (the one's like a telephone book)

........ still ongoing, 7 different stone whites tried, from 3 different paint manufacturers. Starting to wonder if the bonnet stripes have become discoloured since they are 10 years old.

If spectro-analysis doesn't come up with a match, it looks like the bonnet is going to be restriped and laquered as well

Hi Paul, have you thought about polishing the stripes first?? When I polished one stripe I noticed that it came out MUCH brighter than the other. Like almost two different shades of white....

The painter decided to go with the closest match, and I got the car back tonight. So far I've only seen it under lights, and if there's a difference in colour I can't tell.

I can't check in daylight until Thursday, so fingers crossed until then.

It appears that the stripes on the front bumper and bonnet aren't as bright as the tailgate/rear bumper, so could it be a heat issue (?)

It certainly is all white in the end, apart from the blue bits of course wink

First time I've seen it in daylight today, and it sure looks near enough to me. No-one will ever know its been painted - apart from me, my family, friends and everyone on the internet ........!!!!!

Time to relax and enjoy christmas, seasons greetings to all
