If, for the sake of argument, I was considering buying a 2007/8 onwards 8.4 - would there be any available which are not currently advertised (as there are none currently advertised)? Having said that, I do love the look of that 2002 car for sale in Guildford but isn't it a little toppy?

How much money do you have to spend on a 09 ACR in rare solid GTS blue 1 of 3 in the world and first in the UK and of only 4 ACRs here.

I think there are only a couple of other non ACR gen 4s here also, so it will be rare to see one up for sale

Probably not enough! Sounds great though. I'm running out of ideas once the price starts with a 5...

..........before anyone else says it, there were no Dodge Vipers built as a 2007 model. You are looking at gen IV 2008-10 models with the 8.4. Would you not consider an 8.3 genIII (convertibles 2003-2006, coupes 2006 only)

Not that I'm selling, but you would get more choice if you consider the 8.3's too

I think the only Gen 4 vipers in the UK are

1) Solid Blue ACR
2) Black with red stripe ACR
3) Voodoo ACR
4) Solid White ACR
5) Venom Red roadster (used in gumball not sure if still here)
6) Venom Red roadster

Maybe Barry or someone else knows of some others that i have forgotten and there may be some floating around we don't know of. As for the price, well i suppose i was thinking the number for a blue ACR might start with a 1 but then it would probably be followed by an extra zero than you were planning for, but then at the moment its not really for sale. That's not to say I couldn't be convinced or that i wont change my mind later in the year.

For £50k i think the only choices you would have would be one of the two venom roadsters, but I'm not sure £50k would get one especially if not actively for sale. Even if you went to the US and imported, your looking at the thick end of £55k+ by the time you have it on the road over here. OTOH they are piss easy to get through IVA.

If you want an idea of prices then download the 'Autoscout24' app. There are 61 vipers advertised throughout Europe.

My knowledge isn't great, I'll admit. I probably need to do a little more research before I reveal more of my ignorance. I was under the impression the 2008+ cars handled better but no doubt I'm mistaken? I would indeed consider an older model if so.

Every day's a school day!!!!!! Don't worry, when I first announced my intentions to buy one, I said my preferred car was a 2006 GTS

I'm not sure about the 2008 being better handling than a 2003-06, but they do have an extra 90 bhp and more torque, also they carry a bigger price tag

For a quick guide see wikipedia page

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Viper

Good luck - do you want a coupe or convertible? Convertibles are likely to be cheaper, but choice of either is quite limited over here. I considered importing from Europe, but I eventually found one 50 miles from home

It is said each gen viper is a step up in comfort and a little less unruly in everyday use as the previous, I have had gen 2 and 4 and its hard for me to make that comparison, but yeah the gen 4 is built better, it is better inside, but then there is a complication, My gen 2 was a GTS, my Gen 4 is an ACR, they are a very different approach, the ACR has VERY stiff suspension, the rear shocks are something like 1000lbs per inch in compression, and that's each side so 2000lbs (ten fat blokes) will see it sit an inch lower! It is at home above 50mph where that wing and splitter force it into the road. I bounce around like a pinball at 20mph on a bumpy street. I have cup tires with really stiff sidewall and they follow the road like its on rails, well rails made by all those trucks into ruts, rails that have been sitting in the sun without an expansion gap, i tram-line all over the place. But at the end of the day the Gen4 acr handles about the same as the Gen2 car in that respect. but a gen4 acr is nowhere near what a standard Gen4 is like, so by that extension a standard gen4 is way ahead of a gen2 in livability.

Now put that ACR on its home turf the track and OMFG. I scared the st out of my instructor when i didn't particularly bother braking for Abby at silverstone. Apparently that's not the done thing and he didn't think we would make it through farm until we were turning into village and i found the brakes and his eyeballs found the windscreen.

The ACR more or less made it through the chicane on the back straight of the GT circuit of Bedford when i was foot to the floor for the whole straight with 600bhp saying lets go, I was still pressing hard on the go pedal whilst going past the braking markers in a world of my own completely forgetting there was a chicane half way along the straight, and holy st that was the braking distance board flashing past me and into the mirror. Ok so i cut some grass with the splitter and hit the apex with the wrong sides wheel, but given i really had forgotten there was even a corner, staying within the same post code of the track was a significant achievement getting any tire near the apex, well.....

The ACR didn't give a st, it carried on, drained the full tank of fuel lap after lap whilst everyone else went in to let their brakes cool etc, it just kept on going no fade, no overheating all in air-conditioned comfort!

So yeah it bumps around on a city street, but yeah it can handle, even with a forgetful loon behind the wheel, each gen is better than the last, but go back to a Gen1 and take a look around. that towel you see in the foot-well is not for polishing the bumper at a show, its to dry yourself off if it rains. Vipers were never luxo barges and they will kill you if you don't show them respect. 13 years of owning and driving vipers and its still capable of reminding me of its venom for its own sts and giggles when its not happy to be out and woken up in the cold. Being better handling in everyday use is all relative.

Just bought a solid white ACR Hard core. .
Options are rubbish. . No stereo carpets speakers or insulation....

It's an insane car .. Drove it for the first time last Saturday .... Car belongs on a race track and should not have No plates LOL..

I had a supercharged 02 RT/10 before and that was quick... But the ACR is in another league. But mine has track setup on it ...

Gen 3 is a great car driven a few and there easy to drive and great fun ..

Excellent write up Dave, mines 'only' a standard gen 3, but it's similar to drive on bumpy country roads, weaving all over the place following ruts in the road, it's certainly a bit of a white-knuckle ride, until you find some smooth tarmac.

Heh heh - sounds more and more like my sort of car. I've owned a c6 z06 in the past but a viper is just... More. I think I need to get along to an owners meet and grab a test ride or two to clarify things. I find what you think you want on paper changes in the metal. Thanks for the advice folks.

Still looking.

This isn't an 8.4 but I love the look of it:

Can I do better at this sort of price? I'm after a weekend toy which is usable but handles.
