got any more info on what the day entails?
The information I have so far is that it is a Car and Bike Show 10am - 3am along the same lines as last year. There will be prizes for Best paint, Best Interior, Competitors Choice and the Ugliest Car. There will be a craft fair and food stalls and knowing the Americans it will be good food. I would have thought parking would be on tarmac and I think we could probably insist on it. I think Paul went last year with the East Anglian Pistonheads so he can probably fill us in. Yes I went last year and format will be the same no doubt.
Arrive about 9-10 o'clock you will NOT be allowed in if your late.
Escorted from the main gate by base personel to the 'Bob Hope' community centre which has a tarmac carpark you will e issued with a pass but that does not allow you to visit any other place except with an escort and only then to food outlets.
Airside is strickly out of bounds, but the aircraft are taking off and landing pretty close so you get a good view, it is a logistics base so you will only see Hercules, KC135 tankers etc.
Judging is done by members of the base as they wander through at work or play, not much to do there so if you are not interested in talking to other owners and the base personel then don't bother going.
Food is great last year they did a BBQ and a coffee shop is inside but from memory they only take US dollars, no UK money.
Should you also want to test there security by disregarding the rules with something like a donnut, they have there own Cops and they have guns and they do not mess about.
Its a small show very family natured and overall 6 out of 10 but I enjoyed talking to the people.

As I mentioned in a previous post my wifes cousin is the Master Sargeant in charge of Lakenheath so I am hopeful of getting special clearance and a guided tour of the base for us. Arrive about 9-10 o'clock you will NOT be allowed in if your late.

I think you memory must be playing trick with you, or is it your age !
Anyway, the show you discribe is the event at Mildenhall last Sept that I arranged for the PH East Anglia mob. This one is down the road at Lakenheath and I believe is a bigger event (although I have never attended). I,m guessing the format will be much the same as Mildenhall though.
With regard to the currency on base, they did except UK pounds but the change was in US dollars.
Anyway, sorry for 'gatecrashing' your forum. Hope to see some of you there.

Think Ian V is right Paul, as the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing are based at Lakenheath with F-15's http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/spotting/l...

Ian, glad to see you slipped out from the Corvette forum, yes a senior moment on my part but would be nice to do the Mildenhall show as well.
Bet the security will be about the same, can't see then letting us wander around without an escort, I went with Mike to Mildenhall as a visitor and about as far as I got was the bar !!
Went Airside once with 'Special Permission'
But I would love to go to the show so put me down.
