I was taking Rooodgirl out for something to eat tonight, and despite her protests we took my car!

So, driving in a spirited fashion down the A20 between Maidstone and Ashford I had just passed a couple of cars at [Jeremy Clarkson Voice] some miles per hour [/Jeremy Clarkson Voice] and suddeenly the passenger side of the bonnet jumped up to almost roof height! eek

Rooodgirl let out an audible gasp, pressed herself back in the seat and grabbed the door handle to brace herself.

I really thought the bonnet was going to come right off too.

I slowed it down, the left hand side of the bonnet flapping and banging around, pulled off the main road and stopped.

The passenger side bonnet hinge bolt had come out!
As the bonnet lifted it also pulled the drivers side gas strut off its bottom mount and bent the bonnet catch on the bulkhead.

Luckily, the bolt was still on the inner wing, and a few basic tools got everything back together again and, amazingly, nothing is damaged!

We had a lovely burger too! smile

You might find a few stress cracks coming up in the gel coat.

You need one (ok two) of these:

I didn't get much tinkering time today, but after almost finishing making two of those brackets and drilling through the two bolt heads I suddenly had another thought;

I'll be doing the lock wire properly when I get a few minutes, but you get the idea;

My mates wedge bonnet came off when it was giving it loads down the local by pass .. he found it in a field.

It's worth checking the bolts regularly of drilling and lock wiring them.
