Hi folks,

thinking to slightly (2 inches) lift the body of my Chim to do some refurbishing on the outriggers and chassis. I know it has been done.
What does this involve? Does the engine have to come out? What else has to come out or has to be disconnected? How is it best done? Any special aspects to be considered?
Would be great if somebody could share their experiences about this.
Thanks and cheers,
R.

Thank you for the link, but after 45 minutes of reading I did not have any clear answer to my questions above. Mostly nice pics of rotten steel tubes...
Somebody wants to try giving me the information I need?
Thanks,
R.

Did mine last year, engine stays in.

from memory fuel tank out to get at rear body bolts, all other body bolts out (obviously)two on centre console are a bit aukward, seat belts out, seats don't need to come out but do make things easier, steering uj disconnected.

Don't think there's much else, possibly disconnect handbrake cable so lever will pull up almost vertical?

Hi all, I'm on the lookout for information on the same. Unfortunately the above link no longer works.

I've not had my car many months, but being as it's a keeper, i want to keep it as best possible condition. Ideally, I know a full body off refurb is the way to go, but being as my chim is only new to me and so don't want it off the road for such a long time (it would be a very slow process for me) I'm thinking about an interim refurb this winter and maybe go the whole hog in a few years time.

Out riggers look in good shape from what I can see and feel. Lots of prodding and scraping and everything I can get at seems sound, so I'm reasonably confident this interim refurb will work well....fingers very crossed!

Has anyone any tips they could pass on? How much lift is possible doing a particial for example?

Might as well do the full body lift and check everything. Did it last year and I am glad I did it all!

About 3 years since I did mine.
Seats out, seatbelt and fuel tank out, disconnect steering uj as said before.
All nuts below just hack off with a grinder to save time. The 2 at the front of the chassis have had the most exposure to the elements, be careful they don't snap.
Bag and tag everything and take lots of pictures.
Lots of pieces of 2x2 for packing when you lift. That way you can remove one at a time as you work in the area.
If your chassis is too bad you can progress to a full off if needed.
I cut out and replaced the outriggers from a 2" lift without too much trouble.

I did my Griffith back in 2009 - here's a link to my thread at the time

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Well worth giving all the bolts several soakgngs in plus gas a few days before you want to start - gives it time to soak in and loosen thinks up

At the time I downloaded a couple of guides written by others one for the Griff and one for the Chim. Not sure if they are still available on the Griff and Chimaera pages but you can download them from my drop box account if you want

agree with above... take the body off... you will save hours in the long run......
Did mine with a 6" lift... took me ages to do it right... and very cold on the back etc...
