Hi Nosh,

After your glowing recommendations, I'm planning on getting the FC colourant kit to bring life back to my '94 Chim magnolia seats and also sorting the sagging issue having watched the infamous video..but I have a couple of questions about the FC kit first.

1). I believe you went for a gloss finish? But having got to the finished article, which final finish would you recommend? With the benefit of hindsight would you still go for gloss, or would you suggest choosing matt, or satin..?? doesn't the gloss look very "shiny and polished"...?

2). Did you also apply the colourant to any of the vinyl interior (centre console, dash, etc) and did it match and stay on there ok?
Because I'm planning on applying it to all of my interior (leather & vinyl) which is all magnolia. So I'm wondering if I need to bother with colour matching, as if it's not an exact match, won't the kit just recolour everything to the same (just slightly different from original) shade of magnolia..??

Mike.
Hi Mike

The video....oh dear...I need to take that off YT!!

1) I have not tried matt - my kit came with satin, and I just didn't like the finish - the gloss does look shiny, but I have no problem with that, to be honest....

2) I detailed this in another post I did - answer is yes....

Can you take a pic of your interior - may be able to answer your last point.....

Nosh,

Sorry for taking so long to reply. But many thanks for your responses to my earlier post. They helped to clear up most of my questions..

But too late to take photos of interior now, because it's already in pieces. Also because it's finally on way to repair shop, after I unfortunately rear ended a transit van and smashed in the nose of mine. (not a scratch on the van at all...!?!?)
Basically it was while the car was sitting on the drive in a sorry state that I decided I'd 'have a go' at all those little projects I'd been thinking about doing for ages....such as revamping the seats, etc, etc, etc...now starting to wonder if it was a good idea...eek

When (or is that if..!?!?) it all goes back together again, then I'll post a photo or two to show how she looks when finished...

Mike.

Cheers, it will be good to see how it looks a few months on, as it certainly looked top notch when it was done.

Cheers, yes, they do still look pretty fresh. Looks worth a try, I want to colour change my biscuit bolsters and door tops to magnolia.

Thanks all for the replies. Very interesting the vid' on the seat re-furb. I've tried some leather paint; because that was what it was really; despite the advert. It had a cosmetic finish to the drivers seat bolster but soon showed signs of wear so might try over the winter months the process kindly posted here. Thanks again for all the replies and help. J C

Originally inspired/encouraged by this thread I'm part way through a complete interior colour change (doeskin to magnolia/black) using the Furniture Clinic kit. So far I'm very impressed with the product, it's ease of use and ability to 'stick' to Vinyl.
I'll start a seperate thread with lessons learned and plenty of pics when I have time.
