Chaps,

When i took the rear section of the roof off recently the 2 outside bolts were corroded (big surprise) and snapped off inside the body. Does anyone know:

1. How to get to them to fish them out as i can't get at them from above
2. How to replace them ?

I suppose point 2 will become clear if i can establish point 1 but i'm on a mission to get this sorted over the weekend so any help would be great !!

Hi, by "outside" do you mean the two pivot bolts (amazed if you snapped them ! eek) either side, or the two outer ones of the rear set that hold the section on (with the allen key head) just below the screen..

..or perhaps do you mean the two for the roof spars that go in to behind the fuel tank, or at the top?

Nosh, below is what i mean. When you take the hood off there are the 3 bolts that you have to unscrew to take it off, as well as undoing the 2 that are visible inside the car (which you're right Matt; would be pretty much impossible to snap). I unscrewed the 2 inside and as i was manouvering those out the one on the left and one on the right (indicated in the pic) just snapped off because they were so corroded. The only one that was left was the middle, which subsequently also snapped when i was trying to undo it. I can get to the one in the middle, it's just in the boot, but the other 2 i have no idea how to get to so am sufferring somewhat of a flappy/leaky roof in all this rain.

If you guys have any idea how to access them, or just what the hell to do to hold the thing in place, i'd love to know your thoughts !!

AJ

EDIT - Oh and yes, that was broken down at the side of the road....throttle cable snapped !

At risk of hijacking this thread, where do the two bolts between the roof stay and the "parcel shelf" go? I can't undo the roof struts because they just spin round.... 8-[

Jonathan, if they're the one's i'm thinking of then you need to ram a spanner behind them, there's a nut on the other side. One of them took me aaaaaaages to get off !!!

Ahhhh, no, see these are the 2 that i'm trying to figure out where they go. I put my hand in the boot to get to them and there's a bit of fibreglass there in my way, equally from the inside !!

Does anyone have that bible that might shed some light on this ?

Nosh ?

AJ, rereading your posting, we're talking about different bolts. I'm looking for the back of the ones that hold the roof stays/struts, the bits of aluminium you break and collapse to fold the roof down.

Yes, remove the carpet trim above the fuel tank (you may have to remove the cd changer) and they are up under the lip. You have to do it blind, but it is do-able with the roof down so you can reach both sides. There isn't any extra fiberglass in the way!?

ah good, thanks!
sounds like the bolts are not glassed in then.
