So, reckon i'm running north of 450 and apart from some roll cage chassis stiffening it;s a standard re-furbished griff/chim chassis, do i notice any twisting? No not even under full beans! Much more than 500 and i reckon you would start to feel it. Did i need an extra couple of hundred hp? No. Am i pleased i have? hell yeah, s t it's got so much torque i keep thinking i'm in third when i'm in fifth!! Ok so first gear is a little silly but second and third are as close to my sports bikes as i've ever got in a car! If anyones wandering whether its worth spending the money for the sort of power increase my ls conversion has given me, please come for a ride, i'll even lend you a wig and a medallion for the trip :] or can stay roof up for a low profile

Interesting to see that there's even discussion here ... surely the "answer" to the OP's question is simple. Q : "450bhp - is it necessary?" A : "No - but since when did 'necessary' come into it?" I may not want to admit to it but a supercharger is already niggling away at the back of my brain - I'm not interested in track days and quarter miles but I would like to get a (fair) bit more overtaking urge. I've been looking at V8Ds 5.3 and 5.5 long engines with lustful thoughts for a while and given my 4.0HC seems to be pretty strong then I should be able to get a decent chunk of change towards a replacement from selling it (V8D charge £300 if you don't have an exchange item and I should get significantly more than that for a 4.0HC long engine) - the idea of nearly doubling the power without resorting to forced induction really appeals but I have no idea which route the insurers would take least umbridge at... Then of course I need to get my T5 rebuilt as the synchro has gone on 2nd to 3rd... Phil

Phil, just a note on Insurance, I'm with Manning and told them everything about the car including full spec! I was expecting big figures but ended up paying about £85 on top of my normal Griff policy! with track cover! Outfunkingstanding

"bit more overtaking urge"
I would hold your horses !Don`t think there is going to be any roads you can over take in the near future .
Just drove from Nottingham to Thorsby hall ,the road has a 50mph limit with average speed cameras all the way through to Doncaster
Its getting a bit silly

Its getting a bit silly Agreed ... ... driving *TO* Doncaster was always a silly idea - it took me 18 years to get away from there! Phil

Lucky I wasn't in the tiv or I would probably be banned! It is really risky now to speed in any way, (not that I'm condoning it but you know what I mean). So if you want to speed, come and do a track day, for the uninitiated, you won't believe how fast you can go, all day long!!! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Ah well - in that case lets all buy a GeeWiz each as just about everything else will break 70mph and going by that reckoning is pointless buying.
As I was once told - the first sign of maturity is understanding that the volume control turns two ways...

Don`t mind paying the fine but its the five years it stays with you ,and the rip off insurance companies who take full advantage of it.

Oh dear Probably a good time to buy a Morris Minor convertible and tootle around the countryside at a leisurely 40-50 mph Anyone wanna buy a 360bhp beast that weighs less than a Ford Fiesta Clearly, whilst 450bhp would be an interesting experience, it would probably be best left in the garage.... Just admire it sitting there whilst sipping a nice glass of red and thinking how much fun and scary it could have been.... Yeah right

When they outlaw the burning of fossil fuel I will be there in a Thelma and Louise style car chase ending in a large fireball and the smell of roasting bacon...

Mate of mine has just had a forged engine build on his scooby, just been mapped and whilst i obviously knew it would be a bit quicker than mine i thought a quick blast was in order to find out,and its pretty much too much for the road running 475bhp and over 450ft with a pretty flat curve, now in a lightweight Tiv im thinking nice, but really ??
So in a pubtalk scenario yup id have that,in the real world with all the restrictions we currently have and likely more to come,i think gentle refinement is in order for my Griff, rather than the extreme increase some of you lot have gone for.
