Nosh said: FlipFlopGriff said: Now lends itselfs perfectly to be zipped out! FFG That is not a bad idea.... Zip from the inside....Mmmmm Could be noisy (flappy) though.... Just had a reply back from CTC / MazdaHoodShop regarding getting the rear window zippered (as I like the idea of being able to remove the window for through-ventilation but keep the roof on if it's really hot and sunny) and their reply was: "...the cost would be an extra price of £225.00 plus VAT on top of the cost of the hood as we would have to re-design the whole hood to do this." So getting rather expensive in that case ... and they appear to charge £350 + VAT for fitting on top of that. (Just to give you some ballpark on costs...) Phil

I fitted my own roof - it is like nearly all jobs on TVRs - do-able but bloody fiddly at points...but NOT difficult by any means

I think the zip out window idea has real merit. We went to Le Mans in a Tuscan and it was hot, but overcast so we left the roof on but took the back window out. Very comfy way to travel. If I could zip the window out of the Chim I would use it a lot more for work on hot humid days. I also wouldn't worry about loosing the roof at spread with the windows open.
Do you think it is worth seeing if the price would be cheaper if there were a few people interested? How hard is it to fit, I have no mechanical knowledge but am pretty competent at following a set of instructions?

Guys ........some top work here .I`m liking the angled /smaller window aperture .....anything that will stop the clear plastic from cracking has got to help surely! Loving the sunshine and getting the roof down !
Thanks guys !

This is my thinking too ... on a REALLY hot day it might be nice to be able to keep the roof on but remove teh back window and roll down the side windows ... that way I dont end up with a burnt bald head. Simple said: Do you think it is worth seeing if the price would be cheaper if there were a few people interested? I don't know ... maybe? TBH after thinking about it I don't see why it would need a complete redesign of the roof - maybe I'm missing something blindgly obvious but surely it's no more of a redesign that just making the rear window smaller? (Which they seem to have done for a few people already.) Maybe they just don't want to do it and assume that if I want it enough I'll pay for it... I've been told it's not hard but can be fiddly and it seems like that's confirmed above... Phil

I'm tempted to order one and give it a go. Worst case I have a try can't fit it and give it to some who can. Whilst an extra 225 plus vat is a lot, in the scale of my tvr ownership experience it's peanuts . . . . . Let's not discuss the week I had the outriggers done, got the car back and found a week later it needed a new cam, balls.

I'm very pleased with my modified hood: no loss of visibility, folds without creasing and sits lower when down - what's not to like? Total cost of manufacture and fitting: £450 plus VAT - and the re-trimmer told me it was the same price for either window style. R

Ralphy, was that price just for recovering the folded section or did it include the lid as well ?

R Why didnt TVR make the windows this size originally, less plastic less cost and easier to fit, very strange of the northern monkies. They look good, just people arnt used to them.

Phil Guy Broom at West Country Trimmers in Bovey Tracey, Devon. Don't bother looking for a website as there isn't one but the number is 01626 833722. Highly recommended, he's done several roofs for me, re-carpeted my Chim and done the seats for it and another car. Needless to say, he's very busy and can be booked up quite far in advance but worth the wait, IMO. I have friends in Bovey - could be an excuse for a trip down there. Phil

TOV!E said: From someone with a chavved up TVR Tuscan. The kit car windows are awful. Car full of sexy curves and you slap a window designed by some 'tard with a ruler and set square on it. Even Volvo doesn't design stuff that rectangular any more. "It doesn't crease". The standard one doesn't if you take care; this is about as b ks as the thread fitting about bonnet pins because they can't adjust the bonnet properly. God help us.

10/10 for practicality, (MX)5/10 for looks. Just an honest opinion. Sorry.
