its everyone else who is abnormal my friend 
oh and ive seen some people suggest to buy cloth and fit new leather covers. imo this simply isnt cost effective

yeah i paid about 90 for the pair, but then needed to colour them so another £60 I think?
Plus about £40 for the new speakers for the headrest, I would definately get the model with these, it makes so much difference.
By the way, how long does it take to remove the foam? I've looked online and can't seem to work out exactly how much work is involved. I don't find anything wrong with them now, but a bit more lumbar support would be nice

Have to say I've been looking and the only leather seats that I can find around that sort of price are completely fooked and would need recovering... dont pay more than £150 for leather ones (and have seen decent ones for a lot less)

I was tempted to do this as then I could buy some fabric seats cheaply, check that I was happy with them and that they were comfortable and fitted properly and *THEN* get a set of leather covers for about £200 and cover them...brett84 said:

...again, no idea where you're seeing them at that kind of price as it seems that certainly on "the bay" that a set of leather seats in the sort of condition that you'd want are going for about £350 - £450 ... there's a set of MK3 seats over in Melksham that are going for £275 but they have the "icon" branding embossed in the headrests as they were in an "icon" edition MX5. Plus about £40 for the new speakers for the headrest, I would definately get the model with these, it makes so much difference.

people are advertising them on fixed prices for silly money but they arent selling - you see the same sets again and again.
proper auctions are a much better bet - though not always
i missed a set of tan leather mk1 seats (less than 5 miles from me) on "the bay" that went for £22 !!!!!
really nice set of black ones with the built in speakers went last week for £150 (located nr Tewkesbury)- again on ebay
however imo the best place to look are owners forums tbh
if you're looking at colouring them with the furniture clinic kit it will fix a lot of creases and wear in the process, just not rips. Mine were cheap as the drivers was damaged, got it repaired for £20 though as I didn't need the colour matching because I was going to paint them anyway. Thats the good thing about the furn clinic stuff, you can get the seats repaired with what ever colour the trimmer has laying about to save loads of money.
I think as always on eBay you get lucky sometimes. Maybe check out any mx5 forums, driftworks etc see if any are for sale privately.

mine were mk1 seats and i used the mazda frames too - though i did need to drill new holes and flatten the ends of the runners
Just trial fitted an MX5 "Tombstone" seat to the Chimaera.
The old seat was literally killing my aged back to the point where 5 miles and I could feel it all day. I was also struggling to get out the car at times.
The new seat fitted relatively easily, I could have used the original front holes on the car and the front holes on the new seat runners (after a little but of hammering flat) but that left me with no or little forward sliding so I used the TVR square tube spacer to reach back to the original holes in the floor. (You need to used these holes in the floor as any further forward and you clash with the outrigger underneath.
Back holes were redrilled.
Took it out today, so much more comfortable on my back and the better side bolsters held me better in the seat. It's a couple of inches higher at the front, under my knees which I can resolve if necessary by making a mounting bracket to replace the square tube spacer and probably an inch higher at the back of the squab.
The seats are well made, I need to re-colour a bit darker blue.
You get a good view of the road ahead, particularly when maneuvering, the wheel sits just right in your hands, your legs are slightly more "sports saloon" rather than "race car flat" but that's ok for me as it also means I can get out of the car so much more easily.
