A lot of these new cars with what appears to be useless roll hoops 'pop' up in event of a accident to protect you
Yes but I left those out of the equation - I'm strictly talking passive roll hoops.

I was pretty incredulous when I heard it but it was once (seriously) told to me that the screen and screen surround was intended to afford some protection against the car going completely flat in a tip over. Ok, not the *best* means of ensuring survival space (assuming it ever could do what was described, which I seriously doubt), but I do wonder whether there is scope for a properly structural bar to be run around the screen, down the door hinge line, and back over the sills to improve roll-over and side intrusion protection. There's [probably all sorts of reasons why it's a non-starter but I'll chuck it in as a left-field suggestion...

Maybe the best protection is just to assume crashing is not an option

Yes, that's what the Tamora probably has...

Another option would be structural foam for the windscreen perimeter (as per Lotus Evora IIRC) but then you'd need to work out wher to do with the impact force 'coming down' on the bulkhead section of the body...

I only did 3 trackdays in my well modified Chim before buying a Lotus. I had the TR Lane roll hoops which where 75mm below the hard top section. Sure, my helmet stuck above by an inch or so, but some protection is better than none. I did however feel i needed harnesses and stiffer springs on the Nitrons. This is when i thought i would start to ruin the TVR as a road car. Probably the easiest way to innocently roll a car on track is sliding off on a high speed corner into soft ground. It digs in and rolls. Seat belts would not save you.

The Tamora does have a roll structure in the screen surround.

As I posted earlier, on PHer has (Nubbin, IIRC) attributed this to saving his life.

Anyone considered buying something like a MX5, fitting a full cage and taking it on a trailer ? I see loads of Mx5`s and caterham type cars ,they seem to be enjoying it .

You can share it with a mate, half the trackday costs ,seems like a good idea.

Daz, that's what 40+ of us do with our TVRs (why MX5s ???) in the 24 TVR Speed Championship Events throughout England and a day at a Sprint/Hillclimb can be much cheaper than a track day as some events.driving

Yes but you are blessed with "Cash" i was thinking somthing kitted out with a proper cage ,correct track setup and decent tyres.

It would be a hobby which did not break the bank .

Ouch! Its a case of personal priorities where "we" spend our dosh. You have a very expensive Chim!!

My "hobby" allows me to drive to the Sprint/Hillclimb, participate/compete competitively with anywhere from 4 to 24 other TVRs on the day and drive home? Don't need a second car (some of have tho' and a trailer and a Motorhome to tow them - but not necessary!!)

The only overhead is a Race suit, approved helmet and gloves?

With the exception of Vixens (fixed roof so they can have a cage) a race Tuscan & race Griffith, I dodn't think anyone has a full cage in a Chim/Griff.

I don't beliveve you realise how cheap it can be?
