Hi all, I need to replace the tyres on my chimaera 450, what would you recommend? The sizes are 205/55/zr15 front and 225/50/zr16 rear, they are bridgestones currently.
Thank you in anticipation.

Agreed but they are more than capable and z rated tyres in the right size a like rocking horse poo. My insurer has no issue with the fact they are not z rated.

So is the OP planning on driving at more than 149 mph without resorting to track tyres?

As QBee points out; how often would you really be driving that fast without racing tyres?

Secondly, the insurance issue; buy from a recognised TVR dealer. Racing Green (not a recommendation, though I deal with them often, but for the purposes of an example), via their website offers only Toyo Proxes TR1 as direct replacements for your TVR Chimaera or Griffith.
If that is what one of the major dealers and suppliers are offering as direct replacements for your TVR, what can your insurance company reasonably say?
If they have anything to say other than "that's fine with us", then in all seriousness; you need a new insurance company, because chances are you are with one that will use every excuse to not pay out when you really need them.

215/50/16 is the recommended size but you may struggle to find those in Toyos.

I've recently bought a set for my PAS Griffith with 16" all round and had to buy them from different suppliers.

225/45/16 and 245/45/16

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-225-45-16-R16-93W-To... for the fronts

and

www.mytyres.co.uk for the rears.

Should be a new post - sorry OP

225/50/16's which match the rim width, but do some gym work as it won't be as light as it was with 15 fronts! You may also need steering stops, or restrict your turning circle. Also, a 5 mm spacer to get the offset back to what it is with 15 fronts.

Hi,

I had Toyo Proxes T1-R all around and think they are great, but recently have been on a wet track day and did a few laps as a passenger in a Chimaera with Toyo R1Rs...

The Chimaeta with the 4 x Toyo R1Rs could managed to take some bends at speeds that i woudl only dream off in my Chimaera which was wearing Toyo Proxes T1-R.

Last week I had to change my front tyres and bought 2 x Toyo R1Rs and as soon as my rear one need changing I will defo go for the Toyo R1Rs.

You cannot use the Toyo R1Rs if temperature dips below -9, which is super rare in the UK, so I guess no real worries here...

I was a big fan of the Toyo Proxes T1-R, but the R1R are on another league...

You can get them from "my tyre"...

Good luck, Frenchie

My apologies once again for hyjack but whilst the experts are about ! The original OP might decide to buy my Estorils in which case everything becomes relevent ! i am fitting 16" 7.5 ET 35 TVR LeMans wheels to a non PAS 500 so just to double check 215/50/16 are prefereable but 225/50/16 are ok if i eat my weetabix, what is the standard fitment on the 500 rears ?(sorry car not near by)

I had T1-Rs and now have Bridgestone RE002s and I can't fault them. Find them far superior to the Toyos smile

What sizes did you go for? I can't see those in the standard 15/16 sizes for Griff/Chim

Just got some R1R'S as dont do a lot of miles and they are good in wet and dry weather, in between the R888 and T1R. SHould last 5-6000 miles so enough for me for 3 or 4 years. Would rather replace when tyres are used rather than when they are beyond their best, ie 6 or 7 years.
Not put them on yet but only heard good things. Had to go with V rated fornmt and rear which the insure is OK with and I have in writing. Current Dunlop SP9000's are like driving on solid rubber and scary.

Frenchie said he had a ride in the car, not that it was his car. I drove the car on those tyres in the pouring rain at that track day, thanks to the owner's kindness. it was pretty damn good. My next road/track tyres will be R1Rs.
