Goodyear Eagle F1 on the rear. Have been happy with these.

Dunlop SP9000 on the front because at the time they were about the only 'z' tyre available in the 15" size

Thanks for tips! I have Toyo Proxies TR1's at the moment and love the feel, nice and progressive. Hard to find, so thanks for mytyre link - but oops I just emailed them to upgrade to R1R's!

Are these the standard size tyres for a Chim 450 with Estorils? I need to get 4 tyres for mine tomorrow morning so am checking sizes now (at work, away from the car so can't check!)

I'll probably go for the Proxes as they seem to have the most recommendations.

Don't worry - I've just been advised by Racing Green that as the car has Estorils and power steering, I should treat the tyres as if they were on a Chim 500 so:

Front: 225/50/15
Rear: 245/45/16

Toyo don't make Proxes TR1 with the "appropriate" speed rating but RGC are in talks with them and hope to see Toyo making the correct tyres again from September time.

The only problem is, it's not easy finding the above sizes.... Black Circles are out of stock as well as my local fitters. RGC have them but it's an 80 mile round trip - not a massive problem with the glorious V8 burbling away driving

OK, I give up - where do you get R1Rs from? I cannot find them online - or am I being dense?

My eyes did perk up a bit at the sight of snow tyres, though...

Try EBay. Sizes may be your problem. I ended up with a non-ideal mix on my car

I'm looking to replace all the tyres on my car as they're getting old rather then being worn out - Yes I really don;t use the car enough.

Anyway, its fitted with 205 55 15 on the front and 245 45 16 on rear which is wrong according to Steve Heath's book as should be 225 50 15 on the front.

I've heard good things about Rainsport 3 tyres and was looking at options but the only decent tyre I can find in the rights sizes so I can use same brand all round is Toyo T1R.

Anybody been able to find Rainsport 3 in the right size?

So, wanting to put on Rainsport 3s if I can get them in the right sizes after mucho checking around later I have found that:

Front: I can get 205 55 15 in Rainsport 3s for £93.40 each plus fitting ( Was thinking of going to 225/50/15 per Steve Heath but can't them)

Rear: Can't get Rainsport 3s in the size fitted (245/45/16) but can get them in 225/50/16 for £80.90 plus fitting.

Are Rainsport 3s that good t be worth downsizing at the rear?

I never had wider tyres but I recently changed from the ancient tyres fitted to my car when purchased to
Front Rainsport 3 205/50 R16 87Y 2 @ £62 each
Rear Rainsport 3 225/50 R16 92Y @ £72 each

I took the opportunity to go 16" all the way round and the 205/50 r16 loses 0.4" in the sidewall and gains only 0.6" on the circumference over the 205/55 R15 that my 450 came with. I've not had an issue with traction so far and handling so far.

Edit those prices where delivered from tyre leader and I had my rims repainted so then new fronts matched the rears so I didn't have to pay for fitting as that was included.

Not been on the forum much lately but just thought I add the sizes (for a different perspective & confusion) I use on my 450 blowjob. Road/Wet track Front 225/16/45, Rear 255/17/40 (Yoko AD08R) and Dry track Front 235/17/40, Rear 275/18/35 (Toyo R888R)
However, these sizes need quite a bit of trimming to the rear inner wheel arches & curved tubular wishbones on the front (all as guided by Phazed), and careful measurement & calculation of wheel offsets (ET).
Sorry for the left field contribution, but shows what can be achieved, and I'm a bit bored at present.

Just fitted the Rainsport 3' s but only driven the 2 miles back from the garage so far but will be heading off to Germany next weekend and will try and remember to put some updates on here as to how they perform.

My spies tell me that 100 miles scrubbing them in is a good idea before testing the limits of grip...

Yeah, i locked the fronts really easily on way home.

I've got a 200+ mile journey from Cardiff to Dover next week so that should do it!

100%......it took a good 100 miles for mine to show their true worth.....it was quite surprising how much they changed to be honest.

I'm presently running Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 2's, but need to replace tyres soon.

Given the good reports here I was thinking about the Rainsport 3's - bit wonder I if anyone here has run both and was able to give me a comparison of their experiences with them?

Dry and wet experiences much appreciated...

How are you finding these tyres now you’ve done a few miles. Did you get the V or W rating as they might have slightly different compounds or side wall strength, otherwise it would just be the same tyre.

I opted for the V ( 149mph Max) just to clarify.

My simple way of looking at this is consider the weight of the car and how much weight is likely to be applied to each corner when cornering and braking then whatever tyre make/ type you choose firstly look at what weight that tyre is designed to take.
I concluded the W was just a touch to stiff and decided both weights and 149mph speed rating of the V was enough for road driving and spirited stuff alike for my driving, it’s a personal choice.
I’m just wondering if the W rated tyres are that bit harder, just because it’s the same name doesn’t mean it’s the same grip/ compliance level and it stands to reason a tyre that’s designed to take less weight is more likely to squat and widen its footprint than a tyre designed to take more weight even if the two tyres look identical.

I’ve advicated the Rainsport tyre based on how it’s worked on my car but I use 17in wheels and slightly bigger dia tyres than standard sizes to regain trye wall height so are we liking eggs for eggs must be the question, id hate to think my experience is a one off.
It probably took at least a weeks regular driving before I was convinced mind, the car felt a bit wobbly or loose, but as soon as my brain re adjusted to what was actually just more feel from the Rainsport I soon got used to it and then started realising this extra feel was what gives them more grip and my confidence grew.

For anyone using a Toyo 888 or Ad08 you have the extra grip and to some extent compliance so probably experience similar good manners
The Rainsport 3 are a bit like that to my mind but can and do work in the rain so become like a summer tyre but all year round. Maybe not quite as good as the others on track but road driving they have been a marked improvement over other road based all year tyres I’ve used which are simply to hard and don’t react with the road or suspension and made the car feel like a shed in the dry so in the wet like riding on polyethylene skate board wheels,,,,, I used to broadside on them buggers as a kid, my mate had rubber ones which completely removed that risk,, hehe
