Same here..... Every time I go out in my LS its fingers crossed it isn't going to eat itself
Is there a big difference between GM factory built or specialist companies who build them with uprated parts ?http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/crate-engines...

Yeah, I can't understand why so many people are transplanting LS engines what with there terrible reputation for unreliability. I was also really disappointed when I found out they have to be serviced every 10000 miles or they will explode.SILICONEKID345HP said:

Why would you bother with uprated parts for a road engine....all that extra expense, when what's already there is more than up to the job of powering a lightweight car around, completely unstressed...http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/crate-engines...

I think it depends what spec you start with...I mean LS1 engines are quite old now and when you look at the price of how cheap forged stuff is it made sense to me.
I have forged crank rods pistons in my LS for less than £2k. That made sense to me long term as I am going to go for some crazy power eventually!
Love the LSA build I saw it at sportmotive in the early days.

Had a dyno run at the Neil Garner open day today and disappointed with the result.
Car is a 450, stealth cam fitted last year, fully decatted, ACT carbon trumpets and a smooth bore elbow. So minor mods only. Was still hoping for more than 240hp though.
Looking at the AFR the car is running very lean as the revs rise and I hope this is why the power curve tapers off so rapidly.
It has a 'copy' AFM so this might be to blame. Either way, had a good chat with Joolz today and I think I'll get it remapped later this year.
Ok, I'm feeling very inferior after the SC LS but I've had my 450 remapped which was pushing out 240hp as previous post. Joolz has worked his magic and found me another 30hp. The car feels much livelier and also a lot smoother. Car is a 450, stealth cam fitted last year, fully decatted, ACT carbon trumpets and a smooth bore elbow. So minor mods only. Thanks Joolz.

So forged blue printed engines with bespoke superior parts are not worth bothering with !
.......It's not a question of bother, more about how much you want to spend and how much power you and the car can handle
How can you guarantee where the engine as actually come from .. How do you know its been factory built?
.......I bought mine direct from GM
Do independents build better engines ?
......Probably, but be careful one of the early Griff LS conversions had a nightmare engine from an independent
Daz why don't you stop torturing yourself and put an LS into yours........... .......It's not a question of bother, more about how much you want to spend and how much power you and the car can handle

A bit surprised by the torque figure (thought it would be higher!) but here's the result since I cured charger belt slip & misfire. Still backing off at 5500 rpm but this was where the curve seemed to level out (and I think the dyno operator was getting a bit scared !!!)
