Thanks, Charlie, and Peter. I've edited my earlier post to include the graph from the same dyno before fitting all the bits & bobs to show the difference & still on Lucas 14CUX, single coil & distributor !

Thanks Derek

Now I seem to have the teething troubles sorted out I feel more like a proper member (no pun intended). Aiming to do a trackday at end of January so could do with those silencers back for then, if that's ok.

Nice power Richard, lovely job.

I thought power and torque lines always crossed at just under 5300RPM or am I reading it wrong?

They do if the scales are identical - his aren't

Thanks Karl, Anthony's quite right the scales are different but if you rescale to correct the curves cross at around 5250 rpm, peak torque is at 4850 rpm with peak hp at about 5450 rpm although the curve still looks to be climbing a little now I look at it again. The dyno run was a bit of a favour so they weren't keen on risking anything even though I was happy to push on a bit more, still I'm more than happy with the result.

The car was built by Sportmotive using there evolution chassis which is wider and stronger making the crate LSA engine a good fit. The Dyno stops where it does as we hit the Rev limiter and I didn't see much point in raising it as with so much torque coming in low down I never need to take it above 4000 anyway. I will try to load some better photos later of the installation, but these were taken during build.

Due to a change in personal circumstance I may have to let the beastie go :-(
So if anyone is genuinely interested please message me.

That's a real shame, was looking forward to seeing it at Shakey. Got to be one of the ultimate Chimaeras.

Which is the best way to go? crate or have one built with better parts ,Ive read the LS crate engines have weak areas and can be built to a higher standard than crate ,well that`s what an lS British engine builder told me .

Are the lS crate engines built by GM at there factory ?

The LSA does not have forged pistons ,I thought that was the norm for forced induction .

You make a very good point, and are absolutely correct. At the stage of the build when looking at engine options I was comparing the pros and cons of either going LSA (readily available but quite weak), or maybe Essex or A series (both extremely strong and powerful units). Thinking about it now I have probably made the wrong choice by rushing into things, but you live and learn I guess.
TBH, he's only asking a question. Sometimes he asks questions others would be afraid to ask but equally would like an answer to. hippy
Again, must be a heartbreak sale, very sad I'm sure but good luck.

I was just messing, sometimes my sense of humor doesn't come across well. No offence meant, as I have found most people here very friendly and helpful.

Pretty pleased with this morning's result at SRR for my standard 450. A year ago it was about 12 bhp down on the figure from 4 years ago, so I thought I had the early signs of camshaft wear - but it doesn't look that way from this figure:

So the £40 has saved me spending £1500 on an unnecessary camshaft! smile

It also increases my puzzlement: there's nothing in the history file to suggest that this car has ever had a replacement cam in its 80,000 mile life, but the above figure doesn't look like what you'd expect from a standard cam.

Odd, but I'm not complaining!!

About 4 or 5 years ago, shortly after I got it, it was 276 bhp.

Just over a year ago it was 264 bhp, and putting the two curves on top of each other it really did look like the top end of the curve was showing signs of cam wear.

And now, 278 bhp. Mind you, this morning was a lovely cold crisp one with high pressure, so perfect conditions for good power.

All are flywheel figures, and all at SRR (the previous two were when Charlie was based at Long Cross). This morning's wheel figure was 221.

It must have had an "off" day when it did the 264 (not that 264 is bad). Maybe an HT lead was loose, or something like that.
