Is it tractable or does it kick you up the arse ?

What boost are you running ? Yours must be the most powerful Chimaera Turbo to date with Mac taking second place .;)
I would say watch this space ref: Mac wink

At 10lb of boost are you safe without water injection ? You don`t want melted pistons .

I went for the proverbial "spirited drive" a couple of days ago and I couldn't help but think that I couldn't at any time, (country lanes) plant the throttle for more then a couple of seconds.

I know that everyone wants more but there is a point where "more" on the road just isn't useable.

That aside, hats off to you guys for achieving so much from so little.

I have to agree with those sentiments Peter,, but you can never have enough power for the track surely , lol.

As in from an RV8 which in standard form has a very poor BHP per litre record.

Forged pistons and H beam con rods
As this is the place to discuss big power
Are any of you guys using the above!

I'm under the impression the standard pistons are never normally a wear point, rather the rings or the bore goes long before you get piston issues so is this over kill on say a 4.6 producing around 350 bhp.
I'm just wondering if I go for higher power ie more tuning ( FI ) will the standard pistons handle it ok.
Maybe my question is at what power threshold would forged pistons and stronger rods become vital ?

Thanks in advance Alun

At 350 bhp not vital at all. The standard stuff is tough.

Bespoke cam? Do you know the spec? Is it a mechanical?

It's one of Rob's one off grinds Derek, I have details of lift, duration and LCA. Lifters and pushrod are standard LR items, rocker arms were refurbed from my original 500 engine.

It comes to life mid to upper range rpm, so it doesn't have the low down easy driving grunt of the standard 500. Rob once described the cam as 'somewhere between a Stealth and an H404'

lift in .510 ex .515 lca 114, duration is ex 305 in 300

Probably stick with NA now, final engine mod being ITB's......

Funny that my H404 is so torquey?

Doesn't make sense?

Yep good point Peter... your extra 500cc obviously contributes, and I have to confess sometimes I wonder why I have a higher power than torque figure scratchchin the 'norm' always seems to be a higher torque than power figure... It would be interesting to see what a 'torquey' cam would do to the old girl for road use.... smile

Anyway, sun's out, just given her a shampoo and leather, roof's off, so we're off to find some twisty country lanes biggrin

Daz, what cam and heads have you got? Our figures are quite similar, I've got 14 more bhp but you have 12 more lbsft...

What's particularly interesting is that at 3k rpm you have 200bhp compared to my 175, and 350 lbsft compared to my 290 confused

Then at 4k rpm you have 270bhp and I have 260, and you have 360 lbsft and I have 340.....

OK, appreciate different RR's, but on paper it looks like I've sacrificed a shed load of mid range power and torque for a few extra willy waving bhp at the top end.. In fact it's not till we hit 5k that my bhp starts to edge ahead.... We may have the same heads (V8D stage 4), but based on your figures it doesn't look like my (differences to your build) bespoke cam and triple plenum are doing me great favours..

Hat's off to you though, that's a strong (power and torque) engine you have there smile

Chilli (slightly disgruntled. maybe even a bit upset... definitely not happy)
wink

I think a`lot of it is down to a good mapper ,the easy bit is top end power but getting it there is the tricky bit .

I have the Stealth Cam But i never got the build sheet . The reason i got a good deal is because someone paid a big deposit then pulled out so all the stuff was there for the build .

Rob seemed to think the heads are stage 4 .. non of it matters its got decent power and is smooth to drive

Last visit to Pod i managed 12.4 that was when I missed a gear ..

I went 158 miles from Nottingham to Blackpool yesterday ,on my lean map it did over 27mpg .

Next job 3.08 diff for low rpm cruising .
