After a week or so with Joolz, here is my 450. Tails of fast at the top end, he thinks with better heads I'd be in the 320 range but I'm more than happy with 300+ woohoo

Looks good nice torque figure too ! 5L cars were getting 300BHP and being happy with it
And the 0.5L is worth im told 15BHP so a healthy run

Good torque and power.

A pair of Robs stage 4s and you will defo be in the 320 plus.

Here's a combined graph of mine (Chimaera 500 1998) after visit to Jools.

It's an original 5.0 litre engine reworked at V8Developments with trumpets, stealth cam, cross bolted, port matching, internally balanced etc.

First graph as was, a year or so after engine rebuild/refurbished/enhanced by Rob.
Second graph after Clive Forde decat y-piece.
Third graph after 20am AFM and remap by Jools.

Standard ECU, standard injectors, standard fuel pressure, and standard throttle body size.
Which of these would anyone recommend to change next if any considering it drives very nice - so I am happy with ECU and not chasing the very top performance figures of some great engine outputs on here?

This is why I don't understand mine only being 300.1 bhp......My engine spec is V8D 5 litre, ported heads etc as yours, and stealth cam, 14CUX, red top injectors, 20AM, Clive Y, fully decatted.
Mine was mapped my Mark Adams, which is the only difference I can see. Jools has declined to remap it on the grounds that he doesn't think he will improve on Mark's map.

Take it to Surrey Rolling Road and you may well get 320 bhp+ wink

Hi QBee
Did we start off with the same standard of heads I wonder?
I believe that the TVR 5.0 litre heads were similar to what Rob would call Stage 4 (Or so he told me). Were the heads on your engine of a similar spec before porting?
I have the V8D build sheet that states my valve size as :
1.69 inlet and 1.45 exhaust.

I am not sure why one engine is different to another but offer this as a possible reason. I'm sure some more informed could help further.

Mine has stage 3 heads, and that may be enough to be the difference.
Phazed, he of the 5.5 Chimaera, was getting 355 bhp or thereabouts when he first bought the (supposedly) 400 bhp car. He swapped the stage 4 heads from his 4.6 onto the 5.5 and bingo, 385 bhp. QED.
Or QE (quite exasperating), as I prefer to call it, as I now cannot catch him on track. frown
Further tweaks and he's now around 390 bhp but has a ahed load of torque (around 450 lb ft IIRC), which makes the car a monster on the track.

He was asked to build me a really driveable fast road and track car, and that is what he did. Loads of torque right across the bulk of the rev range, nice smooth performance, delivers all the way. So no complaints from me, other than to wonder why I am down on power compared to other similar cars. Everything else is well up to spec, so it looks like the heads may be the answer. I then need to decide whether I am that bothered. Probably not, TBH.

As Simon says you haven`t got the TVR big valves which is going to hold it back a bit. Are yours the next size up from standard.

So TVR size big valves, another 20bhp maybe. A few more ponies from mappable ignition, 72mm plenum may see you in Daz`s 340bhp area.

For comparison my 5 ltr gives 296bhp but again on standard size valves and standard 65mm plenum. I`m running a 214 cam. I didnt think the Stealth was a particulary bottom end cam. I know you said you asked V8D for a torquey cam, well isnt that usually their MC1. Just thinking out loud but could you have the MC1 which would hold back the numbers a bit at the top end.

To answer Carsy, I do have a 72mm plenum, and it is definitely a stealth cam.
