Are you suggesting heads might be a good place to spend some money hehe

Defo on my wish list but after so long without a car I'm going to drive, drive and drive some more. Heads can come when I do a body off resto in a few years.... well, might just supercharge instead smile Am I right to think that when going Forced Induction heads don't make much difference as it's being 'forced' through by the blower anyway?

(Disclaimer: Not singling out Andav469's car, just a convenient post to quote for reference)

Anthony -

Just noticed that when I compare your graph to many of the others with higher BHP - yours seems to have a flatter, wider torque curve that stays nearer to your peak value for a longer duration than the others...

So I wonder if cam timing has been altered slightly (as per the cam timing posts by Pter et al a couple of pages ago) - with the intention of producing longer-lasting torque, at the expense of not reaching the higher top values of some of the peakier torque curves I am seeing with the higher BHP cars..?

Just a thought...

Andaves has more torque and power so i don't think it's timing.

I'll still stick with heads!

Peter,

My point was regarding the spread of torque, rather than peak values - and in fact surely cam timing would reduce peak values while broadening the spread/duration..?

Also - regarding peak values, extra torque/power available from mapped ignition etc, which Anthony doesn't have, so gains to be had there if he wishes for increases...

Heads will give more of everything.

I think that those in the know will agree with that.

Good call though.

Regarding mine, the solid cam gave slightly more torque and less powe.

The peaks of both moved down the rev range indicating to me different cam timing.

As for programmable mapping, I had over 330 bhp with the 14CUX on my 4.6 with a solid cam admitedly.

Anthony's has also been "Mark Adamsed" smile

Keep talking guys - it's much appreciated. Even if I do nothing, it is of considerable interest to me, and maybe others, to understand why it is as it is.

Probably be May before I get some uninterupted time at home, work schedule is a bit here and there with weather delays etc... You guys crack on, yet to get brakes sorted, various other 'small' fixes needed, major service due, and now MOT has run out frown

Appreciate the thought Peter smile
May or June would be good for a little Saturday fun.

Keep me informed and I'll put up a Shootout thread.
Back home at the weekend Peter, and probably for a few weeks.... smile Going to try and get to FOS too, if only for the Thursday and Friday...

Anthony, I'd say heads and you could still do with better breathing on the induction,
Your engine, does it have forged pistons etc like Chillies,,,
I'd also be looking at the dyno used on each graph,,
Unless everyone uses the same dyno on the same day it's hard to assess
Find out what spec your heads are
Timing will dictate a lot,, when you look at the vids even Peters almighty 5.5 isn't much faster off the turns,,
Probably he just can't get the power down but it shows your motors still healthy

Sometimes in the real world that 20 odd hp your wondering about is barely noticeable anyway,
If you really wanna catch Peter I'd be getting better shocks,, more camber at track days and you'll be going way faster!

Here's the other important thing
Spend some dosh on the nut behind the wheel,,,
That's where the most time will come from..
Even Alonso comes to the uk and has a. Old English bloke teach him,
Even Kimi can't beat the old boys time,,,, and he comes every year to have a go.
You'll make more time with feet skills than any hp will give you
Looking at you at Snett,,, the cars still leaning allover the place in bends,
You need to dial out that body roll,, your proper quick so better balance and there's loads of speed in there.

I'd be finding out what stage heads you've got then decide if your down on power!
Many regards Al

I was purposefully hanging back to film Anthony.

Anthony will agree, my car easily pulls away from his out of the turns and so it should!
