For all you none believers (haha) - here is the Dyno graph to prove... It is 3.9 bored out to just over 4ltr, steel rods, forged pistons, 256 cam, race heads and quad 48 dellorto's. As said previously, you could drive it like a pussycat if you wanted to, but plenty there when needed!! smile

Very nice!

93bhp per liter, that's LS territory

We have a winner!

Thanks guys!! It was indeed a very impressive motor (and whilst in an MGB most regarded it as the fastest B in the world...). Came about in the Griff after it was the only thing (as well as gearbox) to survive a monumental accident! Most of the parts inside it were 15 years old when it let go at Snett last year too, so not bad given it was only ever thrashed really lol...

Our new 5ltr will make similar power once cam dialled in properly and ign timing played with etc over winter, but makes a massive 355lbft torque straight out the box! Again on carbs... New engine specs:

Wildcat block 96.5mm forged pistons, wildcat steel rods, wildcat crank to make it bang on (or as close as I'll ever get) 5000cc. 32cc race heads from Roland at ACR (as recommended by Wildcat - and incidentally now does the Wildcat heads!) to give around 11.5:1CR. Piper 256 cam with same carbs. Having run less than half hour it made 355/355 so not too bad! Hoping for about 370-380 and about 365lbft once all sorted and set up properly (running rich etc at the mo).

Weirdly - the bigger cc car is easier to drive on the throttle than the 4ltr was...

Given how much torque others have in TVR Challenge, I needed to go bigger cc to chase torque! Couldn't live with them out of corners! I like the revs too though. New engine will go to 7500+ bit power done by 6k at the mo so changing at 6200. Should be different for next year though! Good look making yours rev too - it aint hard to achieve (despite what some may tell you ;-) )

Over 70hp drivetrain loss.. Huh huh.. Is that 4x4 or some old automatic 3speed.. usually drivetrain take 13%.. Witch means 310hp wheel = approx 350hp flywheel..

Hats off to you Dave that is a seriously powerfull motor, certainly beats my best ever 4.0 race engine, HOW the hell did you manage to make a 4.0 make 310ftib's that's the most impressive bit, a golden rule of thumb on these engines is for every 100cc increase you gain 10ftlb, so I whatever you did to your 4.0 I would do with your 5.0.

ChimpOnGas, you clearly see things others don't wink Being a modest kind of guy I am not into the willy waving thing, and like to keep a low and unassuming profile whistle

Seriously though, I would love to see a 400bhp NA motor turn up.... anyone???

ETA: All respect to Rob at V8Dev, If you want more power then Rob's the guy to speak to....

If you need more than 400bhp, you can do it your home also..
I can´t post latest graph.. but my 5.2litre RV8, home ported heads, + all other parts are home made.. She will made 393hp/flywheel and 350hp at wheels.. 5600rpm and over 554Nm/400lb-ft.. Cam is only M238

This graph it will made 381hp/540Nm.... 10.8CR and new ratio is 11.8 + megasquirt 3X inc 8x ignition coil.. It will meke 10hp more.. smile

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

100% quarantee in the summer 2014, it will make over 400hp.. I just bought M256cam and lifters, better timing chain (current is JP -performance) and new is kent cams, witch is mutch better quality.. and also i thin i will fit chevy style roller rockers for my home modded "stage 4" heads..

Thanks!!! To be honest dad built it! It was on older small journal block with iirc 77mm crank. Heads were JE before the days of cnc machining, and theres a few people who reckon some of his heads then were better than current day! I think we got a very special set lol... cam was 256 and timing set to advance mark on cloyes. Ign timing was the big thing - for whatever reason that engine was happiest at 36º!!

Tim Davis has an honest 400bhp from his 5.2 RV8 challenge car. It can be done! I will be looking at Wildcat heads for 2015 and looking at minimum 400bhp!

About 11.6:1 from memory Alex. Nothing too drastic...

Yes mate currently in class B. Limit is 300rwhp/metric tonne at rear wheels. We arent far away from that at the moment... Wildcat heads are future plans to keep RV8 (400+ bhp) and class A against ajp stuff!

Are you thinking of coming out racing??

I do not know what you have to do to get over +400hp on wildcats..
http://www.automotivecomp.com/v8engines.htm
5.0 WILD CAT ENGINE 398 BHP @ 5950 RPM, 340FTLB @ 5600 RPM
That engine will run on M248cam 10.7CR and crossover throttle bodies.. When i ask some infos, they say that there is slightly more potential if you change cam.. Slightly?? WTF.. if you but M256 cam, how mutch more you get.. 10-15hp max?? I always want to see a dynograph on wild cat engine, but ever seen any..

I will try and find my graph I did quite a few years with wildcat heads, it was a 4.7 and made 450bhp, it blew up everytime we ran it though due to the heads being so poorly cast, after the third rebuild I threw them away!!

I'm trying to, but house stuff is getting in the way

I got permission to run my 5.3 providing its in road trim and keep with the bhp per ton rules
