There's re building,,,and there's re building.
Preparing the parts so they look brand new takes effort and lots of time,, as that picture shows though, much nicer to put each bit back on all shiny and new looking,,
You have to factor in the admiring your work time Anthony, as that adds hours and hours hehe

Next week, all week I'm not stopping even for cups of tea, let's see if I can't get it back together before the end of the year
Have it running in a couple weeks if you try hard enough. I know you won't cut any corners though and it will be perfect when finished. Can't wait to see it running again and hopefully give you a race or 2 next year.

The dreaded 'tick' under load indicating an exhaust manifold leak came back so a not pleasant 30 mins tightening all the bolts up again . Need to put this down as a monthly service item rolleyes

The front brakes on Tamy started to make the 'metal on metal' grinding noise as I arrived home from Brands on Monday.

Got some new CL pads to go in so popped out the pads to have a look. Pads were fine, still 6mm on them so can only assume that either somethig got temporarily stuck in them or its the rears.

Will check tomorrow on a short drive.

Have you had CL pads in Tamy before? How did you get on with them?

Or you could weld the living fk out of the manifold fracture spots and then wrap them like I've done cool
Not tested yet though, so could be an utterly useless and futile exercise hehe

You can buy stainless locknuts and use studs instead which will cure the problem for good

No, currently got Mintex 1144 pads. Or are they Ferrodo the 1144s?

1144s are Mintex. DS2500s are Ferodo.

Let me know how you find the CLs.

Didn't swap the front ones over as there's plenty of meat left on them. If there's still a noise I'll check the rears. If they need swapping I'll fit the CLs.

Looks like I'm going to Goodwood on the 3rd for a TD so that may kill off the rears!

Pretty certain its the inside rear pads so will swap them over this week. Nursed the car home from the Sausage Meet.

Will try and do it on Tuesday.

Replaced the original manifolds with ACT stainless ones so probably should have done something at the time with the bolts. First set of gaskets blew very quickly until I got the uprated ones. rolleyes

This sounds a good idea. Thank you.

Completed home spun polishing work of my already excellent Lloyds LPG & petrol maps.... basic minor tweaks really wink

  • Built a slightly richer 13.1:1 AFR idle target in the closed loop target table delivering an even smoother idle on both fuels
  • Returned to both open loop fuel maps to match the new 13.1:1 closed loop idle target optimising AFR & idle stability - (nailed it)
  • Reduced closed loop fuelling initiation temp from 70 to 60 degrees an option made practical by the new slightly richer idle - it now also exactly matches the 60 degrees closed loop throttle management initiation temp which represents a more logical strategy than staggering these two closed loop features
  • Pulled 1% fuel from air temp correction and similar changes in LPG fuel temp correction at 60 degrees to enhance hot idle
  • Used LPG fuel temp correction to richen LPG cold starts slightly -20 to +30 degrees range only
  • Reduced after start enrichment to 10% to suit new richer idle retaining perfect cold (& importantly) immediate hot starts
  • Tweaked closed loop idle targets, now down from 1000rpm to a super smooth 950rpm idle - fast idle target 1200rpm - extended idle decay rate to 1 second to bridge and deliver even smoother low speed urban gear changes
  • Polished AFR cruise targets in the closed loop target table - shooting for a completely stable 15.8:1 in the 10-50kPa 2-3250rpm light load cruise window
  • Returned to both open loop fuel maps to match the new 15.8:1 closed loop low load cruise target to optimise AFR stability
  • Reduced delta load threshold & enrichment at the light acceleration end of the transient fuelling map to further enhance smoothness of throttle response during low speed urban driving
All minor tweaks really but each has individually & fractionally enhanced the already fantastic LSD hub dyno map. Combined together each small tweak has delivered an accumulative effect resulting a general polishing of LPG cold starts, idle quality on both fuels, fuel economy and throttle response on both fuels

driving

The above represents week of mapping mapping working every other evening when traffic had calmed, I focussed on each parameter individually in a systematic way only moving on once I was completely satisfied a genuine improvement was achieved. As a base starting point to the above tweaks I applied logical theory, theory that suggested an improvement could be made but did not prove it. I then worked back from there using the principle of giving the engine exactly what it wanted rather than aiming for an ambulatory figure one might assume should be correct.

Mapping is enormously rewarding when you get it right and the Canems system/software certainly helps simplify the process, the results of a few enjoyable evening's work can be summarised by saying....

"From superb to outstanding, 'Ol Gasbag' continues to go from strength to strength" cloud9

Fell over a pile of rubbish I should have thrown out months ago.
Went to the tip with aforementioned rubbish to ensure incident cannot be repeated.
Went to pub for a pint as was sufficiently shaken up by earlier falling over to deserve a pint. Or 2. Which became 4.
In summary nothing was achieved in the garage yesterday. I may try again tomorrow.
