Also messed about with a JE 'straight-out' thermostat housing as getting a tad congested now but needs a different style of stat as the one I have won't go under the cover (the bridge is too wide]
Gary, did you sort this. I have the JE straight but have problems with the car running cold so i am about to by a new 82 degree stat - from your post I am guessing it won't fit !phazed said:

Yes. Track days.co.uk
6 May, £229
Noise limit 98 decibels, so that's me out - mine is 101.2 WITH cans.

I haven't used cans for ages.
even if I pass without I'll put mine on for a test out of interest.
I have an accurate noise meter on my iPhone. The ones at the track vary quite a bit, which is why you need to be prepared. I was 100.4 with cans last time at Bedford. Trouble is, I find it tricky to inch it up to 4500 rpm accurately.
We can test yours with and without with my phone.

The answer is that "it depends"
If you are going to do the TVR Sprint Challenge thingy that is featured in Sprint Magazine, then there are quite a lot of rules and requirements, enough to put me off from entering.
What I went on was an informal event organised by a group of young geezers and run once or twice a month. They simply hire the circuit from the owner, and charge £60 per car. It's very relaxed - Rib was able to drive my car with no charge and no helmet. As far as i remember, out of about 15-20 cars the only harness and helmet wearers were myself, a single seater race car and five Caterfields. One or two more had roll over hoops, the MX5 had heated rollers , and that was about that. Everyone else just drove their normal road cars on road tyres and posted some pretty good times. Clios, Civics, and MX5, an MR2, Mark One Golf, Mark 2 Golf and so on.
There is nothing to hit at Curborough (Google it if you want to know where it is - it's just of the A38 between Burton on Trent and Lichfield), other than some low soil piles. The MX5 managed to run wide and go into a soil pile - front end into the air (all the hairdressing equipment in the boot made it rear end heavy, I guess), came down fairly hard and knocked the front splitter off. A true story of getting rid of split ends I guess. That's enough MX5 jokes - he was a really nice guy, MX5 Club Chairman i think, and took the hairdressing jokes with a grin. The only formality about it is the use of a gate onto the circuit, only opened to allow the next car out when the previous car had cleared the circuit. The young dudes were very careful about that.
We swapped cars, took passenger rides, took passengers, and had a good time. Very relaxed. Loads of people to chat to - your sort of event Daz. (and that's not being flippant - i think you would enjoy it)
Times - the hot 6 did around 1.22-1.24 for a three lap circuit. The GTR did 1.25, on standard road tyres - the acceleration was awesome, as was the handling.
I did 1.30.1, 1.30.8 several times, and a range of times up to 1.33 with a passenger. I was the best of the rest, so to speak. Other times ranged from 1.32 for the Nissan 350Z in my class, to high 1.30s /low 1.40s for the standard under 2 litre fare, 1.47 for a guy in his work's van, and 2.02 for someone's girlfriend in an unfamiliar car at Sunday afternoon pace. It's nominally done in classes so that you can compete with similar cars.
At the quieter times you get to run every 5 minutes, at the busy times the queue was about 15 minutes, but in both cases my 888s stayed up to temperature between laps. And by the way, Daz, there was a Caterfield on Federal 595 RS-Rs, like yours. He reckoned they were just fractionally slower than 888s, but half the price and pretty good on the road too. Having said which, he was the second fastest of the Caterfields, but they all had different kit under the bonnet. I think the fastest Caterfield was a Caterham R500, but I may be remembering wrong.
Bring your own bottled water and tools etc, no on-site catering, fish and chips fetched at lunchtime. If anyone is interested, PM me and I will send you the email link to the organiser.
glad you enjoyed it mate, sods law that was the 1st time in months I haven't been able to get away from work for the day and bring my camera down, maybe next time. thanks for the drive too, has left me even more eager to get my car back now! I am sure yours is more tail happy though, or maybe I'm just forgetting how mine handles lolIf you are going to do the TVR Sprint Challenge thingy that is featured in Sprint Magazine, then there are quite a lot of rules and requirements, enough to put me off from entering.

certainly is a good day for the money and great for a shake down or test a few things on the car as its a very technical track for the size! Usually by the end of a track day you have the lines nailed and wont improve much further, Curb seems to take a couple of days to really start putting some quick times in.
if anyone wants a gander at pics I have taken in the past check out my FB page, if you want to come along for a day the next date is the 22nd May, already have my chim booked in along with a griff and Tuscan amongst the GTR, Atom and other usual suspects.

and some pics of Richards from the day too:
and one of the INSANE supercharge atom, makes the TVR feel quite civilized
Mines solid but not very good really, not bad considering I haven't even got a vice at home, I've got some good clamps but still,my bench is the floor! I've worked on site for years so that's helped me focus on the parts rather than the difficulty of my working conditions.
It's ok though, with half a tool box you could pull it apart by the side of the road! Sort of gives me confidence.
Mark are you going to lacquer that pump, how do you stop corrosion or do you just live with it?
If you have a solution I'll be pulling mine apart again, I like the idea of the front engine pieces looking like that.
Someone said there is a lacquer that can take the heat but I'm not convinced! Anyone enlighten me, fell free.

I think you can use an oil based clear laquer. I have been advised by the guys Ive just taken all my steel brake and hub parts to yesterday. Iam having all these gold(colour) electroplated instead of painted. I wasnt keen on the painted hub look. It's ok though, with half a tool box you could pull it apart by the side of the road! l have not coated it with anything. Will give it a wipe down with some auto sol and a kitchen towel and see how it goes. l will on its winter lay up cover with a light smearing of grease. l do this with my alternator and other shiny Ali bits and its been ok last yearIt's ok though, with half a tool box you could pull it apart by the side of the road! Thanks, yes onto the main straight at curb, wasn't doing for the cameras, ironically when I did it for the camera no one seemed to upload the pics or vid of me and the screaming woman in the passenger seat lol
Wheels are very marmite, were always a temporary edition but really like them, over the next couple if weeks I will be able to show what has bankrupted me this winter lol
