What did you do in the garage yesterday?

Think I need some go faster stripes if I am going to keep up with a man with an emerald in his blended base. Where did I put that can of Dulux?
If you have the short flared aluminum 45mm trumpets there will be very little or no gains with the blended base .That comes from the top !
But is a good upgrade from standard .

Phew....yes, I do have a 45mm crumpet base with alloy crumpets, so I still stand a chance of staying on the same lap as his Phazedness?
Sorry not with his stage 4 heads and that 5.5 grunt ! He will be leaving you standing ..I'd hate to have to send him for track driving lessons......

Is it a bolt on job for the electric power steering or serious modification ? do you have power steering ?What base are you removing ?
I think you have 380bhp in the back of your head
Standard tiv PS.I think you have 380bhp in the back of your head
I will remove the standard serp driven pump, fit a shorter belt and fit a Clio pump with remote reservoir and new hoses.

Looking good Chris.
if the drop links don't line up as good as you think, i assume you are using the Ford ones, get the bends on the ARB tightened up for a more vertical line.
Thanks Peter. Yes the ford ones. I was considering bolting the drop links to the inside of the ARB to make them more vertical. They don't seem to want to budge ow they're tightened up. What is the best way to achieve what you're suggesting? Do I loosen the bolts between the drop links and the ARB and then pull down on the ARB?if the drop links don't line up as good as you think, i assume you are using the Ford ones, get the bends on the ARB tightened up for a more vertical line.

I removed the ARB, let the drop links fall straight, measured the correct width and gave my friendly metalworker a fiver to increase the bends on the ARB to reduce each end by about 20mm iirc.
Cheers Peter. I think if I bolt them to the inside of the ARB they'll be a lot better. Any problems with doing it this way?caduceus said:
If they're anything like the Honda Civic ones for the front, I'm going to bin the lot and buy OE TVR ones. At least I know they'll go straight in as they should. I've been enjoying doing up this Chim, up till now. I'm sure the heat is a factor but my blood pressure is rising :/
I've got the civic ones for the front. Went in okay once I removed the ARB bracket. I understand where you are coming from though. Nothing is as straight forward as you would like it to be. Missing the good weather just increases the pressure to get it finished!I went "sod it" and bought the beautifully over-engineered Leven ones. No issues ever since. Car handles well

just looked at the picture advertising them. They look good and some shiny nitrons in the background. But they could have at least fitted them to a desent looking chassis .

I can only assume the cost is in the highly engineered rose joints hidden under the rubber seals. mark
They have been great on my car, I have them on all four corners and the car handles beautifully on road and track, including high speed bumpy B roads and high speed corners at race tracks, so if they are even a small component of that enjoyment then they are worth every penny to me.
IMHO every element of the suspension, and the set up thereof, is actually more important on a TVR than the bhp made by the oily bits, as they all have "adequate" power (to quote Rolls Royce) and how well it goes around corners isn't defined by the bhp up front.
l totally agree with you both . good handling and ride quality are worth just as much as a car with a modified engine chucking out lots of extra horses, but the fundamentals have not been spent on like worn bushes , bearings and poor quality dampners . rotten chassis that creeks and groans like blackpool pier, and has enough hammerite and waxoil on it, to paint the blackpool tower. . nice chassis by the way and exhaust . l was chatting to a TVR specialist the other day who was test driving a chim with poor oil pressure. He commented that the engine had clearly had alot of money spent on and it pulled well as it had been modified , but only when the clutch stopped slipping , and when he could get it into gear properly .

Yes, it's interesting.
I go on track with a variety of TVRs. On the one hand my 300 bhp 5 litre Chim was able to catch and overtake a 360-380 bhp 4.5 Cerbera on better tyres than me at Cadwell Park, yet I struggle to lose a well driven and set up 210 bhp Chim at Snetterton.
Satisfying however to post faster times all day at Curborough than a 520 bhp supercharged BMW Z4M, when we were on matching rubber.....
