BINGO

It's my Brothers which has sat for almost 20 years unused and starting to look a bit sorry for itself.

About 6 months ago took the plunge to have a full restoration and has come back looking pretty dam good.

I'm on the insurance and full permission of use at anytime, went out in it last week and it gets as many passing glances and looks of admiration as the TVR badge does.

Very narrow in the cockpit and not a performance car these days by any means, but it's not all about that is it?

Well done for Guessing thumbup

I only ended up with my Stag (and kept it for 8 years!) as I couldn't find a good TR6, which was the car I always wanted. I did buy a TR6 and own it briefly - it wasn't a good one, despite being very shiny!

At some point, I will probably buy another TR, its just when and which one!

Lovely car, a little jealous maybe, pure style.......

When I was a huge bit younger, a friend had an export with triple carbs, flowed head, straight through exhaust etc and it was nearly as fast as my 3.1 mk1 Consul GT ( cam, heads Holley etc).

Boy, did we have some fast country drives but that was in the mid 70s. Now, no one overtakes on country lanes and you get treated like a Leper if you do redface

My Brother hasn't had much done under the bonnet as the bill was getting a bit out of hand,so a few things have been replaced but really just a case of getting it up and running.

He falls in the same category as myself and the spanners are left with those who know what they are doing, but at some stage and some money left to build up over time will look at making the engine bay more appealing with some upgrades along the way(Always nice to have a plan B)

This is a California Import car LHD and had thoughts of converting to RHD while it was being refurbished, but the views from people he spoke to were to leave as it is. He also has a plan to buy a second home in France so leaving it LHD seemed to make even more sense.

The car really has come out looking top class, few little things to sort out inside but on the whole it's all pretty much new: seats/carpets/dash/roof.

But one view I just can't seem to get my head round is this:

It was raining the day he came round hence the roof up,but to me it just looks so wrong. It needs to be eight inches lower in height in my opinion. With roof down it looks fantastic but roof on it just don't work for me.

Thanks for the nice car comments and will let my Brother know his money has been wisely parted with.

Surely he has also been advised to keep it absolutely stock and not modify it?

Blimey you were up early Anthony.

I don't think he has any ideas of trying to get it more powerful,he drives a touring 318d (Changing soon)and a Mercedes C220 estate before that and has never really had any performance cars. To my memory A Nissan 200sx back in 92 has been about the most umph he's had.

Nothing is going to be done anytime soon, other than sorting out where that leak is coming from.I'm sure you're right that keeping one of these standard is well advised for future values.

Regards Jas

Traffic is easier early, as it's a 90 mile journey to my two main clients including getting past Cambridge. Client is in from 7.00, and so am I after a McBreakfast en route.

Yeah certainly nicer than cleaning everything up...

did you get the fuel rail and cross over pipe from USA. If you did just to let you know I had my cross over pipe leak from both swivel 90o bends within a couple of months. No idea why just guessed we have different additives in petrol over here, but worth keeping an eye on as you can imagine.

Just out of interest, when the fuel rail/connections leak, does the leaking fuel catch fire?

Once fuel is in the rail it is at higher pressure and sprays every where should you get a leak. I found out while mine was on the rollers so bonnet was up at the time fortunately. It doesn't bear thinking about if leak happened while car was on the road

Decided to fettle the exhaust manifolds, hopefully a few extra horses will follow. Took me most of the day filing and opening up the ports. The manifold ports are way too small. You can see where the black ex gases have hit the manifold rather than nicely flowing through. Tother one tomorrow.

Why an earth did TVR go to so much trouble nicely porting the heads to only ruin the good work by fitting badly fitting manifolds.
