What did you do in the garage yesterday?
Discussion
Yesterday and today.
Fitted large oil cooler.
Renewed pipes to cooler.
Removed new rocker box as raised neck fouls the Triple Plenum
Cut, twisted and swore at neck to remove it, ( I had just fitted it with Locktite 638 which is pretty permanent!).
Fitted the 101 bits to the engine after bolting in the engine last weekend.
Just gotta fill with oil, water, antifreeze, bleed clutch and fit bonnet, that'll wait till tomorrow.

Solved a no start issue
I had removed the rad so as to get it modified by fitting the otter switch just below the top hose - as per the later Chims (mine's a '95) and while the cooling system was open, I decided to replace the thermostat for which I needed to remove the distributor cap for access.
Having replaced the thermostat and refitted the modified rad, filled the coolant, it was then time to run the car to check for leaks.
The car wouldn't start, so I replaced the distributor cap and hey presto she lives again.
The interesting part to this fault is the fact that while waiting for a replacement cap, I decided to do the basic fault finding checks.
Have I got fuel? yes, just filled up.
Have I got air? no restrictions apparent in the air intake system.
Have I got spark at the King Lead? Yes, a big strong spark.
Have I got spark to the plugs? Yes, but the timing of it wasn't regular and it was varying strength spark - sometimes very weak and other times fairly strong.
So, even though I had all the ingredients for combustion, it wouldn't start.
Fortunately, I had a good idea what the problem was and was, indeed, correct.
The moral of the story is that even though all the ingredients for combustion may be there, it doesn't mean you will get combustion.
You may well have what the late Eric Morecombe referred to as "All the right notes, just not necessarily in the right order"

Maybe someone should suggest another group buy, they look great. How high do they lift and can you lock them off at the top to make them safe to work under?
Apologies for the delayed response to your question. The actual ramps raise the car 16" from the floor to the bottom of the tyre and the body is now 22" from the ground giving plenty of access underneath.
The ramps do have a locking mechanism that you manually position locking out the piston from retracting.
HTH.
Managed to get 3 of the 4 corners off and stripped down as far as I'm going to go.
Lower wishbones looking worse for wear all round with a fair bit of rust present. Might be beyond saving but will see how they clean up.
Chassis is not looking too bad thanks to the layers of waxoil applied. Problem is I hate the stuff and am torn between stripping it all off or leaving it on the main rails and tidying it up elsewhere. I just love the look off all those white chassis porn pics
The only thing I got stuck on was trying to get the handbrake cable apart from the main caliper. Tried compressing the bracket and unhooking the eye but just couldn't get the purchase to get it off. Any ideas or can anyone enlighten me as to where the adjustment is to slacken it off please.

Hi Ian, I was in much the same position earlier this year. I too stripped all four corners for a tidy up, you might be surprised with how well the wishbones clean up although I'd recommend having them shotblasted and then repaint them, or powder coat (if you're removing the bushes). I had the same trouble with the handbrake cable but as mine had seen better days and I was upgrading the rear discs and calipers anyway I cut the old cable off and fitted a new one, well worth it as an upgraded cable is / was only about £25 from Clever Trevor.
Hope this helps & good luck with the work ahead.
P.S. I left mine white with no waxoyl / underseal as I too like the original white look !

Well, after putting the engine and rebuilt diff in, polybushing the whole car plus a handful of other bits and bobs and taking it for a full 10 mile test drive yesterday, I..........
Drove to Narfolk, full geo at Matt Smith sports cars, painless, professional and good value.
Then drove to Chesterfield for Joolz to check the map after fitting a solid 404 cam, (well V8D did).
Upshot is;
Car feels great on the road as it should do,
Engine has lost 18 bhp.........
The good news is that it didn't miss a beat over 430 miles.
The bad news is that I'm totally confused/disappointed/miffed, etc, etc.

Just noticed, your lambda sensor wiring appears to be sat on the exhaust. I hope this is not the usual resting place? If you are going to fire her up while the refurb is going on might be worth moving this….Lower wishbones looking worse for wear all round with a fair bit of rust present. As stated before somewhere, (I'm tired!). I have a set of front wishbones recently removed from a low mileage car that need a clean up and paint.Lower wishbones looking worse for wear all round with a fair bit of rust present. Might be beyond saving but will see how they clean up.
