What other group of car owners lavish so much time, patience and no doubt skill on their cars.

I'm always impressed smile

I've had a good few evenings in the garage this week, all 4 corners back on the car, brakes bled and just waiting for the wheels to go back on, get it off the stands and then refit the exhaust and ARB.
Car is booked in for a full geo set up at track developments near castle Combe and just can't bl00dy wait to get behind the wheel again biggrin

Nice are the rears discs the same ? If so do you have a link ? cheers

Thanks gents,
Always nice to hear that the efforts are appreciated by like minded folk.

Daz,
The rear discs are standard size (273 mm) as the car is a bog standard '99 4 litre. I got them from these guys;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TVR-Chimaera-V8-Drilled-...

Have to say I was really pleased with their service. They actually provide a telephone number so you can talk to someone before ordering, a novelty in this day and age! laugh
You can specify whether you want drilled, grooved or both. HTH.

Touch of déjà vue today.

Weather has been rubbish this year do haven't had a chance to be really subjective over the newly revalved Pro46mm Nitrons.

Drove a 20 mile test route of country lanes, hmmmm.

Thought bks, swap and try the Gaz Monos while its fresh in my mind. Ah, like an old shoe, no more crashy, hello compliance smile

Going to change back to BPR6EIX plugs on Monday. I had them before, but they got changed out at the last service by accident and I am now on the standard 7s.
I will report back on Monday evening after I have driven the 70 miles home from Downham Market.

I will also report back on whether the change from 400/375 lb springs to 500/400 lb improves the ride/handling or leaves me with a numb bum.....

Have you tried the Nitrons on track Peter,, they might come alive on track.
Anthony,,,, wow, I'd say terrible on the roads but fantastic on track,,, just a guess !

Yes, but on 400/375 I have the front GGPs on Max Hard.....so I will perhaps just soften them off a tad? It's probably just one of the many joys of Federal 595 RSRs - softer sidewalls due to a lower load index make for a more compliant ride IME

IMHO, you need decent dampers as well.

I've had valve issues with GGP's, once the springs off you can check the dampers are doing something!
Yes Anthony I have hard road tyres so maybe that's why my shocks seem non compliant so with your Feds and the firmer spring it might just be the ticket.
Can't wIt to here your results...
I'd give if a few day driving,, mine sort of loosened up after awhile!
Maybe Peters point is spot on,, better dampers are probably firmer earlier on the clicks so regardless of spring rate the dampers help hold the car up better when everything's red hot!

Hahah,,, from you that's a real compliment,, I'm getting there Peter,,
When are you all out on a track day then,, I'm getting into the spanners these days,,
I'd like to become the Tvr track day lacky,,,,,
I've done some driving in the past but I've had a mate driving an MX5 Mk3 race car and go backwards,, wouldn't listen to me,,, went even further backwards so i took the car away,, set it up then spent 88 laps round Donnington with him,,,,,,
Set up changes all day long,toe/ camber/ dampers/ rollbar on and on,,,
Got down to a 1.24. 4 from 26/27's all morning,,,
My mate really attacked cos I said he's a wimp and fk the barrier it won't hurt and the cars dinked and dented allover anyway ,,,
Following week the fastest lap time all wk end was only a tenth or two faster,,, he ran in the top 5 or 6 cars,,,, until hitting someone...
Sunday went from 19th on the grid to about 5 th/6 th, then fell back a touch..
The top drivers are as fast as anyone out there so he was over the moon,,
He'd never driven so well,
If felt so satisfied with how the car performed
He kept saying some toe out on the fronts,,,
It was slowing him down the straights and he was only asking cos he was scared of understeer,,,
I thought bks and set it parallel on the fronts,,,
He had no idea I'd done it,,
To then see the car really competative was a joy to me as much as driving once was!!!
When I told him what I'd do e he paused ,, then hugged me, Remember Matt mentioning it,, he was and is spot on.
To see a friend eventually get somewhere in racing even just for that wk end was mega.
I hope he can loose some weight this year cos I want to win,,
So lads I'm up for a bit of tyre swapping and general tinkering on track days this year,,,
My rates are very reasonable,,,, lololol. Joking. Yep should have some money come the summer so I'd like to return to ha I g some fun and let's be honest a Tvr is more fun than a bag of fannies down ya trousers,, bum bum.
I've said this before mind and then my world went pear shaped !!

Two steps then -

the easier/cheaper one first, stiffen the springs (keeping the old ones)
then the dampers second if that doesn't do the trick.

Thank you both for your thoughtful inputs.

Hmmmmm - if all goes well tomorrow, I will be buying a whole car for less than a set of Phazed's dampers......
