Sump back on with impressive rubber gasket from Wins International (£9.95) - 2mm thick, dense but seemingly resilient material. Fitted with a sparing smear of blue hylomar, gave a good clamping feel on the fasteners (ie unlike bloody cork). AN-10 oil drain fitted nicely above the surge plate on the off-side at the front (next to the 100 amp fuse) - just a touch of fettling with a rotary carbide cutter to nip out a section of the plate fold to gain a flat seal surface for the inevitable Dowty seals, and an 18mm hole from a step drill. New filter and oil (VR1 in 5W 50) and job's a good 'un smile

Nothing. Working.
Drove car today......even got wheelspin and tail wag at 30 mph.
Same with me, heading out for our Mountain Bike Clubs Christmas Party.
...slippery, when wet...

BUT:
Waxed my frame the first time in my Chimaeras life.
Car smells like a big honey wax candle now....

That does look the business Neal!

Lucky you don't know how to go round bends so I'll be safe laugh

I did bugger all yesterday, just a drive to visit my old mum in orspital and then nearly wiped out by a numpty in a crap 90s left hooker Mustang who didn't see me FFS, evasive action and burying the throttle saved the day!

Not just yesterday....more like a few hours every night this week.

First job get the car up on the axle stands and remove all the original Bilstein shocks.

Nothing wrong with them just a little play in the bushes on the rears, so decided to rebush them all, front and back.

The 20 ton hydraulic press at work comes in very handy at times!yes

Next job was to remove the driveshafts [so i can fit new cv joints] and drop the diff because i have an annoying leak on the propshaft flange.

It drips a small amount onto the exhaust, and this is all i can smell after a spirited drive.

Must say at this point, i have done this before on my back under the car.....but fcensoredck me i had forgotten how fcensoreding heavy the diff is, especially as you have to turn it thru 90 degrees to allow it to drop thru the chassis, and onto your chest.

Oh the joys of TVR ownership.

I must confess to a little bit of OCD with the drivetrain, or should i say with any knocks, rattles, or play in this area........hence the rear end overhaul.

Renewed the rear wheel bearings last year, so now doing the cv joints, refurbing the diff to include new bearings and seals and check for any play in the propshaft universal joints.

Car should then be rattle and knock free............or have i missed something!

The wife plans on putting all the christmas decs up tomorrow.......so i may be back in the garage again, tryin to find a few more things to keep me occupied. hehe......... hehe

Ok, last couple of days' worth... had re-faced and surfaced mating face of turbo manifold flange where it had bowed slightly on being welded to pipework; measured length, decided spec, and whistled up -10 hose and fittings for turbo drain (from Torques Products - seem to have this market stitched up for choice, quality and value); made up -4 oil feed line with stainless fittings and Bailey in-line filter; researched, decided location for, and acquired BOV and T-piece (Tial Q 50mm - stunning quality of manufacture, even the supplied v-clamp is a thing of engineered beauty), removed oil filler neck from nearside rocker cover preparatory to reversing cover sides (need space where the filler is currently for something else). Will swap over the weekend and start thinking about how/where best to mount heat-exchanger in nose-cone and home for electric water pump.

Still looking for a spare bolt-in cross member if anyone knows of one...

Not actually in the garage......but I went over to Leven this morning and bought and fitted some of their wiper blades with integral washers. Very neat solution. Can now see where I am going.

Didn't change any nappies.

I believe my rattling was down to the clearance inbetween the mounting bolts and the GAZ ally bushes in the ends of the dampers, might be worth checking.

Mine had 15-20 thou clearance so they machined some new bushes with practically no clearance at all!

Fitted today but not tested due to excessive crappy weather!

Not yesterday as an over-hyped birthday got in the way, but reversed rocker covers today so front of n/s cover is now free of filler/breather gubbins. Soon have that space filled wink
