I treated the car at the weekend which is always very satisfying.

What was less satisfying was I only had half a clutch pedal and a large puddle of dot4 on the floor. It's not long since the master cylinder was changed, why is it the slave seems to go shortly afterwards?

Tyre tread was right, liberal coating of clutch fluid all around the slave cylinder.
Replaced this morning and all's well.

Pleased to hear it - as a home DIY job, how far was it up the Bar Steward scale of awkwardness?

Pretty simple. Get the car nice and high bit watch out for the nut connecting the hydraulic pipe to the cylinder. Easily rounded.
Oh and the reservoir is teeny weeny so bleeding is a bit of a faff.
All in all, a simple job.

Glad it was the slave and not the master.

As long as you can get underneath its pretty straightforward and the most fiddly part is getting the clutch master cylinder cover off and resealing it on the wing.

The clutch slave top up tends to get neglected because of the cover.

I did mine with sticky back aluminium laggers tape. All done for less than a tenner and very capable of resisting under bonnet temperatures

Totally agree with your comments on this product. since I have been using it in race temperatures, it has never let me down in 6 years. I use it a lot to keep my wheel weights stuck in position and the rims after 40 minutes are so hot you would burn you fingers also to stick heat shield in place next to the manifolds which are mighty hot even after a short 20 minute sprint race. One thing though you are paying too much, try a trip to your local builders merchant wink

Got pissed off with misfires.
Removed the 5 remaining working plug extenders, fitted the nice new set of fibre glass heat proof socks.

Certainly ran smoother when I started it up after fitting them.
Yet to do a proper test, both of misfires or not, and the heat protective qualities of the Hong Kong heat proof socks I bought off Banggood.com (yes, it's a real website, not wishful thinking on a winter's afternoon!).
