Nice colour choice Alex. They go well with the car colour.

Are they 18s all round?
Yeah 8j front 9j back, but it seems like there is enough room for 11j at a real push on the rears.....

Might see if I can get some bigger brakes in there, 325mm doesn't cut it now it's on 18's

My 265s just cleI'ar the outrigger diagonals on a 9 i'm on 265 is just cleared the out rigour diagonals " rim.

The only way to have wider is to go outwards, poss wheel arch extensions.

Looks very good Alex, if you don't mind me asking what offsets are you running front & rear, do you have modified wishbones (i.e. like Peters)? I assume you're running an uprated drivetrain to control the beast that now lives under the bonnet so wondered if that alters the rear track etc.

I need to improve my grip now and just trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel (no pun intended.....well maybe a little laugh)

What tyres are you running Richard?

R1Rs reduce wheelspin dramatically.

18x8 4/108 et30 (63.4) front 225/40/18

18x9 4/108 et35 (63.4) rear 255/35/18

I think......

Some small rubbing issues to sort but I've also added 16mm spacers on (only because I got the wrong nuts!) but looks good and fills the arches nicely, so without the spacers it would probably bolt on no problems, the reason I went for 18's is the tyre choice there is so much to choose from!

Peter, I still have a set of 16x7.5J Imolas which I like to keep on whenever possible to keep things looking as original as possible but this obviously severely limits my tyre choice, so currently have 225/45 & 245/45 T1R fitted, which are ok for winter use. I also have a set of Team Dynamics 1.2 in 16x7J & 17x8J which have 225/45 & 245/40 R888 fitted, which I thought would be ok for track use, however having used a trackday at Bedford for the last few running in miles on my rebuild (limited to 4,000 rpm) I don't think they will quite cope on track as I get braver! so I'll probably end up using the 17x8J on the front and getting a pair of the same in 18x9J for the rear.

I've resigned myself to needing to add more options in the Spring but want to stay as discreet as possible for summer road use (5 or 6 spoke). I'd really like to avoid going too low profile so ideally want to stay at 17" max (and quite like the look of the Ronal R42) but may have to accept 17" front & 18" rear in order to get a decent choice of wheel design & width.

I realise I'm rambling a bit but I've spent many evenings looking around on 'tinternet and comparing diameter, circumference, offset, compound options etc. until I'm dizzy.

Any advice, guidance and/or psychiatric help much appreciated spin

Those 245/40 R888s on the 17 x 8J may well catch on the wheel arches on the fronts when turning.....my 235/40 18s do. I tried them to see what wider tyres would do. You might get away with it, as the diameter of yours is 17mm smaller, but the extra width may stuff you instead. All you can do is try them.

Thanks chaps.

Anthony, you're quite right, the 245/40/17 do catch a bit on anything approaching full lock. If I did fit the 17x8J to the fronts I will only do that when the 245 tyres are worn out & I will replace them with 235/40/17 and also change the front wishbones to the tubular concave as per Peter sometime next year.

Peter, I've been trying to avoid changing the hubs (just stubborn I suppose), although I realise that would open up my wheel & tyre options considerably.

Mine came with the 5 stud hubs so a done deal for me.

That's why I sold my Image 3 piece rims or they would be on this car.

Got three long trips around the UK next year so thought I'd get a space saver just in case. Got the right one from an early Focus. Fits on the rear but no chance with the 300mm brake upgrade on the front. Drat!

Work on the refresh starts today, paint shop booked in on Friday so spent the day removing hood, rear bumper insert, rear light covers, door cards, mirrors, front grill, cowls, lens and reflectors. Parts for faired in lights and adaptor plates for VW door mirrors have arrived so planning to cut out for the headlight pods over the next couple of evenings so its all ready for the prep to start on Friday.

Also removed the reversing light switch for testing on wife's Boxster which have confirmed broke, again access is very limited, needed to buy a 19mm cranked spanner as nothing else in the toolbox would get on it, so pleased to say its not just TVR which are difficult.

Going to order a new hood this week, want to take my old hood to a specialist to be recovered, so I just have to refit it when the car comes back end of Jan. After the effort of removing door cards think I will order replacements as I don't fancy doing that job again when I replace the carpets and dash just before the summer.

Looks like I will have a few parts available, mirrors, reflectors and cowls, one lens cracked and one mirror tripod broken but the rest in good condition.

Will post some pictures as she goes in, during and after.

Hope its not raining Friday, about 1.5 miles hoon to the paint shop

So bought a Ford Focus ST170 4 stud (early cars) space-saver wheel and this time it fits. This space-saver is completely different from the ordinary Focus version which is steel. This is a lightweight alloy designed to fit over 300mm brakes. wink

Tried to change an H7 headlight bulb on my Saab daily driver. Just under 2 hours later, having removed the battery, battery tray etc for better access, the bd thing is still stuck in its holder. Booked it in with the Saab specialist - someone else can have the problem. furious
