What did you do in the garage yesterday?

the galvanising was £400 inc vat, I've got the bungs to go in to keep road grime outing.
If you paint over it needs to be t washed so the finish turns black then it will accept paint, the guys who are Powdercoating use wiz wheels to link should the surface to get it smooth then prime then powder coat, they do tonnes of the stuff .

May I ask why you are powder coating it ?
Powder coating goes brittle with time, if it cracks or is "penetrated" it will trap moisture under that defect and slowly separate trapping more moisture as it does not bond to the surface.
It is not good if there is an open edge (drain holes ect) so again, I wonder if this is a good thing to do.
Any "flex" will stress the surface bond and again encourage micro cracking allowing in moisture.
Would it not be better to paint it as that way you will get a chemical bond to the surface and avoid such problems.
Looks great btw
(I work with cast iron radiators, so water/metal is a known factor for me. Powder coating is really a bad thing for them over time)

They would they are getting the job.I can only reiterate my experience with powder coating over 15+ years. As you can tell I hate the stuff as I have seen to many problems that generates lots of work.
Its a bh on anything flexible or anything that expands/contracts. It is after all just a plastic jacket and plastics hate hot/cold over time. A chassis is a very harsh environment for a thin coat of plastic.
Up to you.
Personally I would look at a very good quality (3M) stone chip/under-body coating and paint on top that way you get a chemical bond and flexibility.

Removed the window motor as it was slow and misaligned at the top front corner. Getting the door card off was not such a mammoth job as I had anticipated but still not pleasant. I cleaned all the moving parts and lubed the spring drive with sewing machine oil which is very light so will hopefully not gum up too readily. I cleaned the slides with detergent using the wifes tooth brush and left them to dry. I decided not to lube them with anything. The 10 mm bolt in the centre of the door when slack will allow the window to skew to get it parallel to the roof line. Finally treated the electrical contacts to some contact cleaner and reassembled. Window now works much quicker and fits tight to the roof. All in all not a nice job as I've lost a bit of skin but learnt a few tricks for when I do the other side.
Absolutely nothing after the car performed so well on Friday at the track day.
Sooo, went for a walk with Mrs phazed up to Leith Hill, rescued a mountain biker who had dislocated his shoulder, (Told him bicycles were dangerous) cut the grass and washed the cars.
A great day in the sunshine!
