Put a new DAB in
Fished the arial up the near side wing void so the arial lives in the nose and remembered
To pull a pull though in ready for anything else that may need to go that way

Washed the air filter out ready for re oiling
There was some muck in that

Just modify my old SD1 5.2l exhaust manifold´s.. I add left side 10cm and right side 20cm more pipe.. Now they are tuned approx 6000rpm, total lenght approx 870mm + merge collector..

Need sand plasting and painting with Tikkurila termal siliconaluminium paint.. It will hold heat as long as steel is red.. You can see some that paint near exhaust manifold flanges up to middle point of manifold, then you can see some rust.. I painted those manifold approx +5 years go. Add some thermo tec wrap in the flange to middle of primary pipe.. So it will stay quite good if it is covered with sand, water etc.. It wont last wear..

In Finnish. Only for professional use.. smile

Dropped the engine into the car and was very pleased to find that my home-made clutch alignment tool for the twin plate clutch worked and the engine slid perfectly on to the gearbox smile

Only bolted up the Bell housing and engine mounts, plenty more to go.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to wish you well, get in there.

It worked bounce knocked up from something he had lying around indeed scratchchin I'm sure with what Peter has lying around in that shop of his you could build up a V16 Auto Union lump and a couple of RV8's amongst other things it just getting him to remember where he put it rofl

Get some Jaguar mesh and cut to size. Takes just a couple of mins to fit with no naughty words.

Anyone got some tips for getting track rod ends out of the hub? I normally just undo the bolt and stand on a crow bar, soaking them last night hasn't worked, not missed out a pin or something weird holding them in have I?

Can't see how soaking a taper will help?

A good clout in the direction of the red arrow should release it (don't hammer down on the thread) or if you want to hit it on the yellow dot hold a very big hammer against the other side.

Generic picture but near as damn it same as a Chimaera

thumbup Tried that, dropped big hammer on toe. Did it the hard way and screwed the rack out of the tie rod, will deal with it later. The reason for all of this was mission creep....

Needed new rear disks and pads. Noticed the brake lines were cracked so figured I might as well buy some braided ones. Buying braided hose and realised that I still need to change the fuel pipe...

Notice the chassis under the exhaust manifold is getting worse, might as well paint it whilst I'm waiting for brake parts... might as well do the rest of the engine bay while I'm there...

Oh bks need to change the engine mounts

Suppose I might as well finish putting the battery in the boot...

Oh fk hehe

Completed putting the engine in the car this morning.

Car started instantly, Ran the cam in and went for a short test drive.

Bit of smoke on the over run, I don't know why as the heads were overhauled by David Knight about 8000 miles ago.

Maybe due to new piston rings bedding in and running mineral oil. Proper test drive tomorrow.

Love it hehe

You know it makes sense, while your lifting the engine to aid mountings replacement try jacking it up as high as possible but watch you don't bend the wiper mesh, and not off the crank as it can fk the front oil seal, then you have more room to paint,

Ball joints, ARB, bushes etc, bit of Pwder coating of wishbones etc, etc,
I reckon when I did a basic job of mine the parts and bits of work totalled around £350-400, that's gaskets and all sorts, cheaper than a service! Like new when done.

The truth is you have days where you can't do much, Solvol and a rag, all those hard to get to bits, buffed up, mine seem to stay failrly clean for months before they need a buff.
